Hi everyone! My first actual post here if you don't count some random comments here and there, and a bunch of WRUWs.ย
First of all just wanted to say it's been fun to be part of this online community of fellow watchnerds! Lots of friendly people, nice watches and pics, fun comments and good posts to read. It's been a blast so far.๐๐
But to the actual post now..
I went with my Tag Heuer to the AD today to have the misalignment of the chapterring taken care of. As you can see, it's slightly off to the left. Not much, but enough that it bugged me. It will now be sent forward to a service center and checked properly. I don't know if they will do anything about it, but I surely hope so. It's still under warranty so that's not a problem. I didn't notice it when I bought it because I had never heard about misalignments on Tags, so I honestly didn't check for it.๐คทโโ๏ธI guess you should always check these things, no matter the brand. Lesson learned! It was also my first AD experience so maybe I got carried away a bit. Probably.๐
Has anyone here had issues with misalignments on Tags? If so, were you able to get it fixed?ย
Anyway, have a good day fellow crunchers!๐ซถ

First off, welcome to WC, glad youโre enjoying it so far. Second, while I havenโt heard about this problem with Tag, Iโm sure youโre right that it can happen with any manufacturer. Itโs too bad you have to send a new watch in for service, I hope they get it back to you quickly.ย
Welcome again to WC, kaverini! I'm a fan of F1 and my all-time favorite drivers are Mika Hakkinen and Kimi Raikonnen. ๐
Re. the chapter ring, looking at it closely, it's also possible that the problem is not with the chapter ring, but with the placement of some of the applied hour indices.ย

Thank you sir! At first when I noticed it at home I thought I wont do anything about it. But everytime I wear it that's the only thing I think about, and that takes away the enjoyment of wearing it. And that's a shame because I really like the looks of it and how it wears.
Theres something wrong with it... it seems not be possible to aling this chapter ring... i would send it back to manufacturer, as far as I know there's no service that can be done

Thanks bud! And nice job with the finnish.๐๐Glad to hear you enjoyed watching Mika and Kimi back in the day. I did too!๐
Yes perhaps. It also crossed my mind if the whole dial is somehow a bit to the right. But I think that's more unlikely. We'll see what they say after they've checked it.

Ooh, that sounds bad.๐จ It's under warranty so I hope they'll replace it if necessary.

Legendary champions! The Carrera line is equally legendary. So, let's see what the Tag Heuer guys report.ย

True on both accounts!๐And yes, now it's just a waiting game until I hear back from the AD/Tag.
I only notice it at the 25 and the 35.
I'd leave it be.

In my case the "let it be" depends on 2 things: how much i paid for the watch and how far is the retailer.... But yeah if it was cheap and retailer is in an another country I would also "let it be"
I don't think that the chapter ring is the issue. ย Your 6 o'clock marker on the dial seems to be ever so slightly misaligned relative to the date window.
Itโs a replica. Iโm in no way being serious at all. ๐
ย
That Carrera is actually one of my favorite watches, especially in the variation you bought it with from the AD. I know Tag will address it as their service is strong. Iโve never noticed that issue in Tags and really had to pay attention to yours to see it. I think since it bothers you, you should have it serviced.
This really chaps my hide! ย Tag is definitely stealing Seiko's IP here! ย Doesn't Seiko own the patent on misaligned chapter rings and bezels??? ย Seiko should sue!
Have some news... I've been watching some reviews of that watch and every one is misaligned, so no need to send it to retailer, there's nothing to do, unless they let you pick another model

I paid over 2k for the watch so it was not that cheap. I got a good discount on it but still, it should not have issues like that IMO. Especially not a big brand like Tag Heuer. ย
And the AD is about a 30 min drive from where I live, in a bigger city, so it's not that big of a deal to visit them.
It's one of these things that once noticed it can't be unseen.ย
That's exactly right!
It's not that visible at a glance. I didn't notice it in the shop either, when I bought it. But as I looked closer at home I noticed it. And then it started to bother me. So I just decided to take it in for a check and see what they are willing to do about it.
It's a Mercedes yes, but not an SL. It's a regular C-class.
Well I hope it gets resolved to your satisfaction. It's funny how once you become aware of a flaw, no matter how small, it seems to be the first thing you see.ย

Thanks. Yeah, you just can't unsee it anymore. If it was a cheaper watch it wouldn't matter that much. But the more you pay, the more you also demand.

Absolutely. Things that are forgivable on less expensive watches are not so forgivable as you move up the price ladder. One of the reasons that you're willing to pay more is for the better execution. Of course, that has to be tempered with reasonable expectations - perfection may not be possible, but the product should be commensurate with the price. Keep us posted on what happens with it - it will be a testament to their level of customer service if they resolve it to your satisfaction.

Exactly. As you go up the price ladder you pay for better watches with better movements and better finishing etc. At least that's what you expect. But to some extent you also pay for better customer service I think. So we'll see how this goes. I'll let you know when I know more.
Welcome to WatchCrunch and I hope Tag remedy this particular problem for you. ย It would drive me crazy too.

Please let us know how it goes. TAG are or were a favourite of mine back in the 90's and early 2000's . I hope they treat you properly.
The miss-alignment would bug me as well. ย I think a touch of OCD is pretty common amongst us geeks. ย See my OCD poll from a while back, most of us have some of it for sure.

I'll do that. I like TAG too (obviesly, that's why I bought it๐), so I hope that won't change after this. Meaning I hope they take care of this without any objections. Thanks again!

Probably so yes. I think the OCD becomes more severe, the more money you put into the mix. With Seiko it's kind of expected, so you just don't care. At least with the more affordable range. But not with these more expensive brands. You want quality as you pay for it.
I think you need to contact Ryan Gosling and complain about "his" watch.๐

That's the spirit we watch enthusiasts must have in this watch hobby business, specially when you buy an expensive watch like yours. I mean why should we let them get away with our money if they can't provide us with some basic quality control?? Capitalism has it's ups and downs I guess haha.ย

You're absolutely right. We need to keep them on their toes so that they don't start slacking with the QC.๐
