small TIP FOR small WRISTS

So my wrist is about 6.5 inches and with that comes some annoying complications. One that is the most frustrating is the extra strap that wraps around the front of the wrist.

This is a simple fix but I feel like it does make a difference.

Image

Just switch the traditional orientation of a 2 piece strap. Meaning the piece with the Buckle is facing your body. It doesn't help disguise the extra strap but it hides it.

Same size wrist and the frustration is real. In an age where one can get cheap custom straps, I find it easier to order short straps. They are generally a higher quality than many original straps.

·

So that’s the reason why Seiko places the buckle end below watch 😂

·

Unfortunately yes, some Seikos ship with the buckle below the watch. I’ve had to flip a couple of them before wearing.

Where do you get the custom straps?

·

Anywhere from Etsy, to Amazon, and there are countless individual stores online with various price targets. I usually use a few different shops on Etsy.

·

I have a 6in wrist and I don't mind the extra bits of leather as much as as I do with Natos. For those, I cut the extra bit off with a knife and singe the edge with a lighter (only about 7 secs of heat is needed). It gets rid of the extra bit.

·

Same here. All watches should either have quick release straps or drilled lugs.

·

6.5 isn't small. It's the most common wrist size in the watch community. An insurance company did a poll a while back. And it's only slightly smaller than the human male average.

You shouldn't be embarrassed by the leftover strap.

Image

Flap it like you own it.

Also I'd recommend fluorine/FKM rubber over leather. It's super comfy and it's not sticky and irritating like silicone. Also much of leather is mislabeled cat and dog skin from China. And rubber is way more durable and water proof.

Also rubber I hardly know her.

Sorry for the broken pics. This website is so buggy recently.

🐱🐶 huh? That's wild. I'll def try the FKM. Thx.

5.9 here. My new straps basically wrap fully around to reach the watch lugs on opposite side. It looks ridiculous and I’m forced to do this ghetto solution 😫🤬

Looks shite so I’m super excited on the rare occasion a short length is offered 😒

Is 6.5 inches consideres a small wrist? I am myself around that size and I thought I was in the average 🤔

I have a 165mm wrist so suffer with OEM straps generally being too long. I have had several shorter straps made by 7strap Art on Etsy and have been delighted with all of them.

Wow. His stuff looks fantastic!

·

Interesting idea, I'd have to relearn donning my watch tho.

I will cut it down like @Fieldwalker does. I'm in the the under avg wrist club lol.

I get kinda OCD, so if I do wear a trad 2 piece, I use trauma shears or super sharp cloth scissors, clamps, coin edges and/or measure out my cut lines 😂.

Have you seen Delugs has a cut to size strap in all sorts of colors and widths, I am thinking of getting one. They even give 3 pieces so you can use it on watches of different size/shape 😒 expensive af though.

These B &R Bands straps are great for smaller wrists, based on the French parachite straps used by the Mari e Nationale.

6.25” here, and I hate it too. Almost fully migrated to custom straps that use Omega-style deployants because of this. Where the long bit goes under the short side.

Lots of options:

Hamilton (personal favourite, bottom right one in pic): https://www.ebay.com/itm/265886311992

Artem (well built but not the best design, bottom left one in pic): https://artemstraps.com/products/loop-less-deployant-clasp-stainless-steel

Strapcode (haven’t tried these yet): https://www.strapcode.com/products/parts-nt-acc-de-013b

EBay (cheap feeling but 100% functional, and comes in titanium, top in pic): https://www.ebay.com/itm/290886954509

Although using a clasp solves the main issue, I still have the long side of the strap (with holes) at 12 o’clock. Feels like the clasp rests in a better position this way.

Alan, dude! You need to submit a email to WatchCrunch so you can join the “Itty Bitty Wrist Committee” Get that badge!!! We’re only .1 of an inch away from each other! 🤪😅

Thanks Paul, yeah… I think I got rejected!

Sent these pix about 2 weeks ago but didn’t hear back. Admittedly, my wrist looks quite lumpy with veins (endurance athlete hobby) and some swelling from a prior scaphoid bone surgery, so maybe looks bigger than it is.

I’ve submitted mine with a watch on my wrist for some context. I put my yacht master 37 on and sent that in for them to see how small it really is. Perhaps try some thing like that and maybe you’ll get the badge. You should definitely receive one. 🥂
