New to watches but not to collecting

I run a music channel and got to watches by wanting to carry my phone less...so analog watch time it is. My YouTube channel emphasizes communtiy so that's another reason for me to look here to learn. I'm fascinated by the drive to collect while also wanting to get the most from the fewest.

I have a smaller wrist, 6.25 and will always be interested in places to buy "short" straps of both FKM and leather, particularly comfortable rally and rubber straps.

I lean toward 36mm and thin watches are of interest. For years I work a Bulova Marine Star Titanium until it gave out and now there doesn't seem to be anything like it in the market where all the watches look to me like wall clocks on straps. :)

All assistance and direction will be appreciated.

I mentioned this on another thread, try Etsy. So many custom strap makes and many offer short straps without even asking for customization. Tuns and Harpy Leather are two I use a lot. Good luck!

The TUNS page has more than I was hoping for! Now I just need a source for quality FMK and rubber in short.

Hi Ralland,

Well this is really part of moving a way from screen time...well but then I'm here digging for information of course. If you follow the channel you'll know the only thing that interests me more than "what's enough" is community.

Thanks for the welcome.

Thanks Don. I can play enough for what I need. The channel is called "five watt world". It's a mid-size music channel but it is a full time gig.

·

Oh, misunderstood your question. The channel focuses on gear minimalism but also there is a LOT of history content and live streams on a wide variety of related topics. I did a live today on "Rules for Social Media Success".

Not here to promote the channel but also willing to answer questions. :)

I was thinking you might what to look at #gada (go anywhere do anything) to get some ideas for your next watch. Also, #microbrands is a great place to find interesting pieces.

For thin watches, look to the Miyota 9000 series, Sellita 200/ETA 2824, and quartz. Fortunately, smaller watches near 36mm are a newer trend (e.g., Christopher Ward The Twelve 36, PRX 36, etc.).

Welcome Keith! Good to have you here... You can link your YouTube account to your page so people can go right to your videos! 🎸

I'm a drummer myself, so when I play I stick to quartz movements just to be safe. Love my #casioak because its analog and digital, plus I don't worry about hurting it lol. You could check out my YouTube for some covers (I'm not professional but I enjoy it lol). 🥁

As far as watches you will get plenty of ideas and inspiration here! Have fun! ⌚

Welcome! Long time guitarist here. Funny how many musicians are trend setters in the watch world. Sorry if you’ve already seen them, but Hodinkee’s talking watches videos really surprised me at the range of people who love watches. Plenty of their headline figures there are all musicians!

Haven’t seen those yet. I’m as much I retested in the psychology of collecting as the items themselves. If you’ve seen my videos you might already guess that.

Welcome, fello watch collector!

Thanks Marcelo. Do I recognize you from my livestreams?

Welcome Welcome to WatchCrunch. If you are worried about large watches, keep in mind that lug to lug can be a more helpful measurement when determining whether a watch will fit or not. To that end, it's also good to compare vs your wrist width.

I've realized this. My wrist measures 50 mm across the top, so I've been scouting short lug watches like the Christopher Ward C60 Trident 300. 39mm but lug to lug of just 45mm.

50mm across the top should let you wear anything with a lug to lug just at our under 50mm depending on the strap/bracelet. As long as the lugs or top of the bracelet don't stick out. But I definitely recommend going to a watch shop and try a couple of different ones on. You'd be surprised what fits and feels good.
