Tips for accurate size representation wrist shots

Quick wrist shot photo tip:

The standard 'default focal length' camera on most smartphones is usually wide angle field of view and as a result distorts most things photographed close up, making them look much wide than they really are:

If you want to capture a more accurate and true representation of watch size on your wrist, the 'telephoto zoom trick shot from a mirror reflection' helps with this.

On my 6.5 in wrist (16.5 cm) you can see two examples:

Omega Speedmaster 57 - 40.5mm but with long 49mm lugs making it wear large on skinny wrists.

Rolex Yachtmaster, 40mm but with much shorter lugs making it wear much better on the same wrist

Compare this to the standard style wrist shots where the size looks much different 🤔

Where are the pictures you're talking about?

Never mind I passed right by them

I know, I said that I passed right by them.

What is the trick?

100%. I made this comparison a while back for a Facebook group and one guy didn't believe me.

Same 38mm watch, same wrist, different camera distance.

Yeah because the average person doesn't understand how camera optics and focal lengths work, which is normal, that's why so many girls take crappy looking portrait photos on camera phones lol

·

Yep, this lack of knowledge about camera phones is why there are countless threads on Reddit and WatchUSeek that are utterly pointless . . . and probably countless people who ended up not buying a watch that would have been totally fine for them based on bad advice based on a bad photo.

I've been telling people here that my Invictas only "look" big. I need to work on my photography skills.

This is a super tip, thanks for sharing. I’ve always wondered why the MM300 looks like a great fit when I’m wearing it, but when I take photos it’s like I’ve strapped a dustbin lid to my forearm.

·

Good tips! And the Yacht Master on the blue rubber strap looks absolutely breathtaking!!!! 🤩

You have way too much time on your hands….. just saying.

I think you meant that we (as a watch community) have too much 'time' on our wrists, I totally agree

·

Thanks for the illustration. This has been a common gripe of mine for a while. Folks want to show the detail of their watch but in doing so, they get the proportions all wrong and take all context out of the image.

Nice to know somebody got the pun. 😉😆
