Which Rolex No Date Submariner Ref?
Having previously done a similar survey for the Explorer. I now interested in which Rolex No Date submariner ref the group would go for (basically - vintage, Neo vintage, or modern ceramic.)
The question is motivated by a swap I am doing later today for a 2009 very late 14060m.
I think for me I’d choose the 14060m - but the slightly earlier version with two lines of text not 4 - for that extra bit of vintage sauce.
In brief:
The 5513 is the classic submariner in production between 1962 and 1989. Stunning vintage looks but also some of the fragility that comes with it - and an acrylic crystal - yuck.
The 14060 produced from 1989 to 1999 retains most of that classic look but updates things like the movement, crystal and bezel.
The 14060m is similar to the 14060 with an updated COSC certified movement. Produced from 1999 to 2009. Later versions have things like the serial number on the rehaut and add two lines of text to make four in total.
The 114060 is the first ceramic bezel reference produced after 2009. Major changes here include the ceramic bezel, the vastly improved bracelet and the overall chunkier beefed up look. Some might find it too beefy and refined (I do.)

Ah well Watchcrunch doesn’t let me choose that many options for poll answers!
The older models are appealing because they’re older Sub models but if there’s one I had to buy and wear it would be brand new from an AD. I don’t ever want to worry about water resistance, resale, hollow end links and the stamped clasp of older Rolex models. Vintage is cool. Modern is functional.
