The moment you knew you’d indoctrinated them?

Out of nowhere watching Masterchef yesterday my girlfriend says “He’s wearing a Cartier…. Cartier Santos?”

I’ve not felt so proud since the dog got third place in waggiest tail last summer.

What was the moment you realised you’d indoctrinated your significant other / family / workmates?…

We were on the streets on Mumbai in a famous flee market just browsing and exploring.

We came across few antique shops in the market and i naturally started looking at vintage watches and cameras.

My Girlfriend spotted a HMT janata devnagari dial( devnagri is Sanskrit scripture which is a language used in India ) i recognised it was an aftermarket dail so even after her insisting we should get it I didn't.

But rejecting the poor soul couldn't sit with me very well, so for weeks i started hunting for exactly the same looking watch, and after requesting a seller to arrange one, i pick it up and give it as a gift to her.

This is the pic I took after i gave it to her, the white one is the HMT janata and the black lume one is an HMT jawan with repainted dial. (The leather nato look bad on it because i made it myself)

This is the original photo she took of the watch. This was my reference for hunting the exact copy lol.

After writing so much, i am think i should really make this a post😂

What a lovely thing though to share that with her..

My wife listens diligently to what I say when I waffle on about watches (poor woman) but it's got to the stage where when I try and ply her with watches she doesn't just ask, 'what colour is it?' she's properly got the lingo, she asks about the movement and case sizes and everything!

Don't think it's a good thing, it's end up costing me a Khaki King, spb147 & a Cartier Ballon Bleu 😂😂😂

Seriously, nowt better than cuddling up with my better half & watching some YouTube watch content together 😘👍

Over the last several years my wife has put up with me talking about or budgeting for watches, straps, whatever. Slowly she has started her own small collection of watches from Citizen, Seiko and now Tissot. (I also need to add at times my wife can be very honest and very blunt.)

I knew she drank the Kool aid when we went shopping for her bday/mother's day/you-put-up-with-me-being-gone-a-lot gift at a store. She informed the lady what she was looking for, a white dial/white bezel, dive or field style watch. (She specifically wanted to go to this store since they had the Tissot Seastar she wanted to look at.)

The nice lady behind the counter tried to steer her towards some all white fashion watches she was showing to some other women. In the salesperson's words, "They (fashion watches) are the same thing but much dressier, cuter, worn by celebrity X, etc." She politely responded, "No ma'am, I'm looking for a real watch, not some cheap movement in an overpriced case." Right in front of everyone, without missing a beat. 😛

I had to walk away from the counter so I could bust up lol-ing out of view.

Any time my wife and I were watching a movie or TV show, I use to constantly ask myself out loud, “what kind of watch are they wearing?” And try to answer my own question just to be a goof. Now, years later, it’s my wife who will see a watch on screen, even for a moment and ask “what kind of watch is that?” to try and test me. I ruined her and I love it.

My wife now knows every Cartier watch model by heart. She came from - ”oohh i want that rectangle watch”

Cheap and Priceless, the humor that is🤣 all those years of education and indoctrination pays off. And you know the moment when the young are ready to leave the nest and fly on its own wings 🐣

When my spouse started nonchalantly opining out loud on YouTube watch content I though I was watching alone.
