Oddly (and somewhat embarrassingly) enough, what really got me started was fashion watches. After learning the difference between those and heritage/homage brands I started my official collection with an Orient Ray 2. Since then it’s been all uphill and my first luxury watch purchase was the Omega Seamaster 2531.80.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
First watch I’ve ever owned was a Casio F91W. The first automatic Watch I purchased with my own money was an Orient Ray 2. I credit that watch with sparking my interest into the world of automatic watches.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
My Omega Seamaster 2531.80 was purchased upon my graduation from the Police Academy. It was my first luxury watch purchase and has been on my wrist many times on patrol during different jobs and events. it’s the watch I plan to pass down to my child when the day comes.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Get what interests you and don’t follow the crowd. if you like a particular watch but it doesn’t seem to be particularly popular online, still go for it. This hobby shouldn’t be about pleasing others, it should be something you genuinely enjoy.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Tudor with the new Black Bay 54. For me it combines everything I love in watchmaking. Vintage looks with callbacks to classic vintage pieces. In this case the classic Tudor Submariner, but with all the inner workings of a modern mechanical watch packed within a modest 37mm size. I absolutely can’t wait to get my hands on one.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
A Rolex Submariner 14060M would be my grail. There’s just something about the neo-vintage look and non maxi case as well as well as the symmetry of the dial. That as well as the fact that it wears more like a 39mm watch, I feel like it could be the perfect understated Submariner dispute the outdated bracelet. I do believe it would be my perfect “one watch collection”. If such a thing could even exist.
