I just got out of the cinema watching Top Gun: Maverick. Couldn’t help but notice & admire the pilot watches featured in this movie.
Got me thinking, other than the typical (which is IWC, Breitling etc.) What are some Pilot/Flieger watches that the watchcrunch community will recommend? Would love to see your suggestions!

KhronoKraze recently posted his Fortis F-39. A great modern tooly style. A fantastic watch if you have the wrist size to accommodate the long lugs.

The Nighthawk is probably more palatable (wristable?) for most though.
Islander has Fliegars with an F-14 silhouette etched in the case back because they were assembled in the same area. It was definitely a selling point for me. Also I'd rather have a Fliegar from a Jewish American for a decent price rather than paying out the nose for a German watch company that helped supply the Luftwaffe all those generations ago.
Laco pilot watches are great budget-friendly options. Loved that movie!! 🍿
Breitling ref 806 re issue
So, pilots watches are a Self Contained Universe. Can I ask 2 things:
1 - What are your target price-range?
2 - Do you prefer vintage or modern take on the design?
The Nighthawk is probably more palatable (wristable?) for most though.
And the traditional "I passed my first checkride!" Watch lol
There is always the venerable SNA411
Stowa - Flieger Chrono manual wind or automatic.
Laco - Already mentioned earlier in the thread is a good option too.
The original dual-time zone watch, the Glycine Airman -- in all of its various incarnations (but mine below is my favorite of the designs):
This watch was one of the top choices of aviators during the Vietnam era.
Take a look at the Alpina Startimer lineup. They come pretty close to IWC and have a great quality
Depends on taste some people actually want pilot watches with history. Others just want pilot watches. You don't have to go super expensive to get a great Pilot's Watch Citizen has the Japanese and Hamilton has the Swiss covered. If you really wanna go down the rabbit hole Seiko has TONS of pilots watches never announced to the public and their history goes back to ww2 as well.
Here's my list from affordable and up.
Orient B Dial Automatic 150 to 200 ( I own this one)
220 to 300 Flighty and Citizen Night hawk (also own)
400 to 1000 Laco, Glycine, Alpina, Seiko, hamilton
1500 to and up
Hanhart 417
Oris Big Crown propilot
Breitling Navi timer
IWC
And the traditional "I passed my first checkride!" Watch lol
I had no idea that was a thing!
Laco for price and history
just make sure your getting updated miyota movement with hacking

Agree! It has a classic Flieger dial and is available with either Type A style or Type B style dial, and a variety of colors.
39mm Type A black
42mm Type B red sunburst
Sapphire crystal, screw down crown, 100M WR, and a classic look, all for $199.
Gotta represent for Canada! Whitby Watch Co. Avro Arrow 🍁😎👍
Type B flieger...?

Do they do an automatic version?
Do they do an automatic version?
Of course! The one in the photo I added to my comment has an AL-725 movement which is a base Valjoux 7750
The non-Chronograph versions use a Sellita SW200-1 called AL-525 in Alpina nomenclature
Escapement Time chronograph 40mm and San Martin type b 39mm for me.
Laco pilot watches are great budget-friendly options. Loved that movie!! 🍿
Yes, I really love their blue dial pilot watch https://www.laco-watches.com/en/watches/pilot-watches-basic/pilot-watch-aachen-blaue-stunde-42mm-automatic
Hi @Jeroemy I'm still undecided on which Flieger / Pilot watch to add to my collection. I really like the Laco blue dial pilot watch https://www.laco-watches.com/en/watches/pilot-watches-basic/pilot-watch-aachen-blaue-stunde-42mm-automatic
I'm also very interested in the Hamilton Day/Date pilot watch https://www.hamiltonwatch.com/en-gb/h64615545-khaki-aviation-pilot-day-date-auto.html
Do you see a blue dial theme starting here? ;-)
Not seen the movie yet. had to Google the watches though. Not keen on Maverick's Porche chrono, but I do love Rooster's IWC chrono.
Good luck with whatever choice you make.

I do like your Orient B Dial Automatic 👍
You might also want to check out Longines. Great heritage in aviation with some nice pieces in their catalogue. 😉
Stowa Flieger Classic 40
I'm thinking about a Pilots watch as my next purchase too and currently eyeing up the 'Cooper' from Interstellar a.k.a the Khaki aviation pilot day date auto (ref H64615135). Alternatively quite like the Oris big crown and Alpina Startimer. As much as I like IWC, it just isn't an option right now! Let us know what you go for.
Christopher Ward Cranwell offers lots of value

Whats the size and can i see a wrist pic plz? Great price!!
38mm, I think they've sold out of this particular model. But they have upgraded color variants with bracelets now. San Martin makes small ones for a decent price too, no f14 case back though.
