Group Lumeshot

Decided to do a group shot to compare the differences across the generations.

The explorer II and sub are swiss only from 98/99 (both a series) so should be (feel free to correct) rolex transitioning to luminova. The datejust is from 03 and is actually my first mechanical watch, and super luminova (not sure the differences, some posts say one is in house)

The Daytona and GMT are from 12/15ish and I don’t believe either are the new blue chromealight The heritage ranger + heritage chrono are also from that period and the FXD is an MN 22, so new-ish

From the photo, it looks like the FXD has the best lume.  Is that the case?

I have seriously been considering getting an FXD...  but only for the lume!  Is that weird?  And, do you know, how does the FXD lume compare to a Seiko diver lume?  In my experience, Seiko divers have the best lume of all.  But, if the FXD is better, I'm definitely getting one!

Not sure regarding the Seiko Lume. the only piece I have from Seiko doesn’t have lume so can’t comment.

RE buying a watch for Lume: no not weird at all to purchase just for the Lume! was actually a big reason I got it! Plus I got a really good deal second hand from a friend (comfortably under retail)

RE the best Lume: it’s hard to say because of the differe marker sizes (see the maxi GMT vs the older submariner), I can’t imagine the material would be that diff until you get to chromealight

Nice group! Nice array of lumed dials. Love how you shown a generational progression of lume.

I’m not gonna lie, I think it’s real…interesting…that you’re considering a Pelagos, but mostly just for the lume. Maybe just save like $4500 and get another indiglo?

That’s a serious collection! Just reading the years of purchase has made me realise this is a long game.
I plan to buy 2 or 3 this year knowing it’s a bit of a stretch, so I realise I need to slow down and seeing this helps.
Love the Daytona and the Sub 👍🏼
