I do understand what you're saying. "First" decorates the history of the 6138 and 6139 so many times it's hard to count. On the other hand, perhaps you're just starting and crave precision, why not the Omega 9904?

Just to be sure, you meant the modern Speedys with the 9904 movement? Sure those are spectacular chronographs. Maybe I was more concentrated in to the vintage part of the watch segment and not precise enough in the poll ๐ค
Yes, I was taking the total universe in consideration. The biggest advantage of the newer automatic, column wheel; vertical clutch chrono's is anti-magnetism. Magnets are everywhere now as opposed to the 70's. But for pure heritage and horologic significance the 6138 has it. Except for the Seiko community it is under appreciated.

Absolutely. Considering the build quality and from a technological standpoint they were great timepieces. If they were swiss made the prices would have sky rocketed, but maybe it's better as it is so "normal" people still can afford and enjoy them โ๏ธ
I've got a 6138-0017 & 6139-6002. They are great watches, especially for the price relative to what you would have to pay for a mk 2 Speedmaster for example. If you judge them by the competition available at the time I think the Zenith El Primeo is probably a better watch, Heuers at the time were also pretty epic. Your poll results may be skued somewhat as a lot of people on WatchCrunch don't have much awareness/knowledge of vintage watches.
Those Seikos are very cool. For me, my favorite vintage chronograph is the Heuer Carrera and favorite modern chronograph is the Breitling Premier panda. I clearly have a preference for panda/reverse panda chronos, as evidenced by my Hamilton Intramatic.

That's a fantastic line up mate! Pandas are certainly within the nicest chronograph designs๐ผ

You seem to be a connoisseur and yes, completely agree, vintage watches aren't that much of a topic in the WC platform. Nonetheless I wanted to keep the discussion as open as possible to see which other watches people would bring up โ๏ธ๐
If it was the best they would still make the caliber.
But it's long discontinued. Unlike the Zenith El Primero and ETA 7750. Which still are made since 1969 and 1973 respectively.
Well pointed out in terms of the caliber not being available anymore. My question was more based on variety, design and quality of build. But I didn't specify that, so fair point ๐

Great chronographs as well. I prefer the 6138s due to their vast variety of designs throughout the 70s

Very cool designs for sure! Are all 4 from your collection?

Yep, got them quite a while ago in the early years of my collectingโ๏ธ
I'd have to with the 7018/7016 but the 6138's are pretty sweet too!

Certainly the coolest if not the best! ๐
I love Seikos especially vintage and their chronos are great but the Heuer chronographs of the 70s are pretty special

Absolutely. Would love to have an Autavia orange boy in the collection ๐ฅ

The heritage of vintage Seiko is truly underappreciated.
