Got one years ago as a cheap add on for a graduation gift. It runs pretty well considering it has a cheap Chinese seagull movement based on a 100y/o design. I wear it with my mess dinner coats when we have military mess dinners. The movement is really big too so it is easy to adjust timing and tinker with if you are looking at getting into watch making as a hobby. I think they will love it as a gift.
Went back for warranty repairs. Alignment is improved. Still out a little bit on some hours but harder to notice than before so I am not as concerned now. Must be a slight variation in the ‘roundness’ of the hour wheel.
When I first saw it I thought it was a parallax error as well (the visual appearance of something being in a different position based on the angle you view it from). but when you lay it flat it becomes apparent. Also if you compare it to the minute hand position you can see the hour hand is just ahead of the hour marker. I should have taken one at 12 o’clock it is noticeable then. as soon as I set the clock to 6 the jeweller saw the issue immediately. She went and compared at every hour marker and noticed it all the way around. It is small enough that at any other time you would see it. It becomes obvious on the hour. She also recent had a Rado returned due to a similar issue, though weirdly she said that the Rado was only mis aligned at the 3. As mentioned above i wouldn’t have even noticed it at any other time, but once I saw it I knew it was there and couldn’t unsee it. Unfortunately my OCD won out this time.
