Tudor Pelagos 39mm

Well first of all, I never was that high on this watch when it was announced. Only after seeing YouTube Channels did I become enamored with this watch.

For reference I have the: Tudor 42mm Pelagos, Tudor 79090 Sub, Seiko SLA 017. I just sold the Rolex No date 14060M sub.

I love the no date look, and the modern sub esthetic, price of this one. Plus I love Tudor as a Brand. I was finding it hard to justify my $9k plus tied up in one watch (14060M). I got the P 39mm for $4,900. Brand new, unworn, full set.

So the question is, those of you who own one, or are thinking of owning one—what is it you like the most about this watch?

Congrats on the new watch!

I got the call from my AD today and went to check it out. It‘s a great watch on its own but it didn’t do enough to wow me.
I just felt a bit underwhelmed. I feel it’s trying to be too many things to please as many people as possible. and I feel a bit of the authenticity of the original Pelagos is lost.

Don’t get me wrong. On it’s own it’s a very pretty watch with good specs and decent value for money. The size is just right as well. I’ll just admire this one from a distance.

I just don’t think I’d ever choose to wear it over my SMP and it hasn’t done enough to fill the spot of a no date sub.

I considered it. I like most of the changes vs the regular Pelagos (thinner, no date). However, with an 8" wrist I prefer a diver to be a bit bigger. Plus I prefer the blue to the black.

So I ended up deciding to go with the FXD instead. It combines the thinner profile and no date with the blue color. And while some may not like the no bracelet option, I rarely wear watches on bracelets. And I'll take 22mm lug width and no bracelet over 21mm with a bracelet.

Now comes the hard part in waiting for it.

Yeah but I never noticed that with my Pelly 42mm. Is it same Titanium as 42mm? Grade 2? Or is it Grade 5 (the 42mm).

Ah I just googled it, 42mm looks like Grade 5—harder titanium.

Titanium, thin, great lume, and great movement are what are driving me to want one. I was trying to get one, but ended up deciding to get a speedy now (the other watch I have really been wanting) and wait another year or two for 1) the hype/AD games to calm down and 2) wait for the inevitable blue release to decide between the two colors

Now that you own both (p39 and 79090) If you had to give up one, which would it be?

·

The 79090...I am truly a no date guy.

·

It’s a great overall package.

My favourite watch. I'd been searching for months to find something that ticks all the boxes for me (lightweight, tool watch oriented, black dial, no date, automatic, COSC certified, not pretentious) and so I pulled the trigger. Could not be happier, I smile every time I look at it and it's only lost 5 seconds, in a week!
