So, whilst I'm waiting for parts on the DX Sealion (it's had its case refinished and its movement serviced) but is waiting for a case ring - which was missing.
Edit: The Sealion is now complete.

and the Bellmatic which is currently in many bits...
I decided to tidy up this rather tired 6119-7183 Seiko 5 from July 1972...
Although not awful it was actually pretty scuffed and VERY dirty...
It was also running pretty poorly...
Its crystal, a double dome hardlex, was also pretty tired...
It's very unusual to find a double dome crystal on Seiko 5s of this era.
So, following a stint at the spa, involving a thorough clean and refinish of the case, a new crystal (which must be made of frozen unicorn tears judging by the cost) and a good service it's feeling happier and running much better...
Excuse my grubby fingers... I do wash occasionally but polishing compound does rather make a mess.
I'm really happy with this one. The dial, which looks black, is actually a very dark blue..
I think Seiko made some brilliant stuff in the 70s. This one is particularly quirky. It has a sector dial, a day at 9 (just for the hell of it) with Kanji and English. The English has a day of the week number after each day... Monday 1, Tuesday 2, etc... bizarre. The "5" shield is at 6 not 12, the "Seiko" which normally sits above the shield is above the day at 9 and the Automatic 21 Jewels, which is normally at 6 is next to the date at 3. It's all wrong... and utterly marvelous for being so.
That double dome crystal is a bit special too.
All in all it's awesome and I really do hope it finds a loving home with someone who really appreciates it.
Until next time lovely people. ❤

Gorgeous! 😍
Amazing restoration work! You practically gave it a second life 😄
Nice job.
*slow claps*... Very well done! Beautiful work, beautiful watch.
Unicorn tears 😂
Very nice. Why does the movement say 25 Jewels and the dial say 21?

That's the movement of the Sealion DX that I'm waiting on a case ring to complete...
I didn't put a picture of the movement in this one... but, for completeness...

Mystery solved. I get excited when I change a battery. Looks great.
That is stunning 😍

The last few I've done from the Suwa factory in late 60s/early 70s are just lovely. They don't make 'em like they used to...
They're a pleasure to work on
Yes the old Seikos have something special about them. There's almost nothing to the design but what little there is really works.
Yet another awesome work by the Master!
You did a stellar job reviving this watch!!
What did you get the watch running too after the clean and oil?
Awesome post keep them coming!
Awesome work my friend. One of my favourites so far!

The spares I need for the Bellmatic have arrived so that'll be progressing soon. Hopefully I can get it up and running soon. It has potential to be very lovely so fingers crossed.

I'll put a picture of its timegrapher output up. It's just a little better than before 😉

There you go...
That's after a 30 second shake from standstill. The amplitude would be higher with more wind on the mainspring.
There's a little bit of refinement to be done in terms of regulation now it's had a few days to "bed in" but it's pretty solid as is.
Nice little watch 👍
