A Sealion visits the Donkey Sanctuary...

So, I posted a few weeks ago about a Seiko Sealion DX 6106-8480 that was spending sometime at the sanctuary for a little R&R. When it arrived it looked a bit tired and wasn't running very well...

The case, bezel and bracelet needed a tidy up and it desperately required a service.

The first job was to service the movement. I like the 6106, it's charming... and look at all those jewels... 🤤

Once the movement was a happy little chappie I moved onto the case, bezel and bracelet.

I refinished the case with a brushed finish on the top and polished sides. I also polished the bezel.

Then onto that rather unusual bracelet. Along with being generally scuffed and tired, the cut-out out sections, which were just painted metal, were chipped and worn. What could I do to make them look better? Hmmm 🤔. Now, it just so happened to be that I had recently painted a railing in the garden with black hammerite. Could I use that? Should I use that? What could go wrong? So, I painted the cut-outs with Hammerite, put a layer of clear epoxy resin over the top and then brushed the whole lot along with the rest of the bracelet. I think it looks OK... what do you think??

I was then waiting on a new case ring to complete the build. That arrived yesterday and I put it all together this morning.

I really like this one. I'm not sure if the bracelet is original to the watch, it's certainly a Seiko bracelet, but I think it's pretty unusual and goes well.

The dial has just a smidgeon of patina but it's generally in very good shape for a 53 year old. It was born in June 1970 (just like me) and its far less clapped out than I am.

...next... Bellmatic... the rebuild continues.

Until next time lovely people.
