What’s the most interesting watch in your collection?

Not your favorite. Not your most expensive. A watch that you acquired at one point which makes you either scratch your head, smile, or both.

For me it is my vintage Tissot Antimagnetique. Originally a Swiss built pocket watch circa 1924, it was later modified to be a wristwatch by the addition of the lugs for the strap. These are sometimes referred to as “marriage” watches, but I am not 100% sure.

This example was recently serviced with new glass and is a robust 48mm. It still keeps decent time with enough winding. The offset 12 o’clock position does take some getting used to.

Professions from engineers to astronauts have been used to promote watches but this Felca pays tribute to the less vaunted bus driver.

My “Perfectly Useless Morning” watch by Mr. Jones watches. It was a gift from my wife and she even engraved one of my favorite quotes. I wear it when I go hiking. 😊

Your don’t see that every day. Great quote on the back. How do you tell time on that?

Most interesting is probably the Seiko metronome watch. Quartz and kind of small, but will emit a constant tone for tuning and has a metronome function with both the tick and the hands moving to the tempo that can be adjusted.

Metronome???? Wow. Function and…..an interesting form.

My most interesting and least often worn. Triple calendar/date speedy. Day, month, date, 24 hour hand, sunburst dial, true chrono (not module, automatic, sapphire crystal and 39mm case 45 lug to lug. A truly oddball Speedmaster.

Nice. Just in case you forgot what month it is!!!!

Beautiful engraving. Nice pocket watch

Wandering hours, and my electrostatic induction based (Wimshurst machine) Accutron Spaceview 2020

Hypnotic!!!

My Pontiac watch.

I bought this around 2011 for $25 on eBay. 3 or 5 (I forget which) were made for the 25th anniversary of the Pontiac Oakland Club International. This one was given to the POCI founder, Don Bauer, who I bought it from.

That's lovely. If wearing that doesn't strike up a conversation no watch will..

Nice. Just in case you forgot what month it is!!!!

These days I usually remember the month but the day is anyone’s guess. I work from home on old 1940s machinery (no computers ) if I’m deep in a project or up against a deadline the days/weeks can really blur.

There was a point in my 20s (pre smart phone) where I knew the day but the month was anyone’s guess. I was a bartender in a beach town and my rent was due weekly.

Go Heuer! A true math wizard’s domain. Puts the tachymeter to shame.

It’s the ultimate nerd watch. Too bad few people actually know how to use a slide rule anymore.

There are two most interesting watches in my box:

Seiko Giugiaro “Ripley”

Image

Quirky design, used by the character Ellen Ripley in the movie Aliens. Design by Giugiaro, an industrial designer from Italy that also design the Delorean car from Back to The Future. And I’ve never seen a bracelet like this anywhere.

Vostok Amphibia 710059

Image

A new but old watch. Using the same mechanic and fabricated the same way as in the 50’s (i think?). Retro futuristic design. Cool dial design. Funky crown operational. Ingenious engineering, the watch get more water resistant the deeper it gets in the water.

That could be the winner right there!

What piece is this? Looks awesome! Never saw it.

What’s the first one with that 3 corner star showing the time? Looks from men in black or something… great pieces btw! I have a metronome at favorites on chrono24 but they are all available in Japan (got tired of waiting too much for the customs to do their job)

That's a Phantasos Triclops, a KS watch with an interpretation of a wandering hour complication - instead of rotating discs, the hour numbers are displayed on rotating blocks.
