Heart attack at 38, with a recovery that took almost ten months. I had no defined interest in mechanics or watches, but not being able to walk for an extended period of time made me focus on the smallest of detail.
I think being so interested in something completely new- that at first I felt was so mundane also kept me stimulated. I consumed every book and YouTube stream I could on the subject, and still do.
I had the idea that I’d never taken apart something complex and mechanical before- so why not now?
With simple tools and magnification I taught myself to pull apart and rebuild (badly at first- breaking and losing many pieces) a few watches I had lying around. The interest simply exploded from there, I am completely fascinated by the mechanical side of things.
