New Ming Ultralight - lightest ever?

Firstly - I love this! 2 pieces of A4 paper

8.8g manual, 10.6g for auto. Some very thoughtful engineering here.

My insanely heavy garmin 945 is about 50 grams, and being a weight weenie cyclist, I now feel ashamed at it's portly mass.

I know many will consider it as silly as one of those ultrathins that simulate wearing a credit card on your wrist. Yes, there is shades of that.

But I do appreciate light watches with my active life and to Ming's credit, they seem to have taken being robust as seriously as being the lightest.

The video is worth a quick view as well, the running seconds indicator is beautiful. That star in the middle changes in size to indicate the watch is running.

It's well out of my price range (and most of ours) at 19500 francs... but if my budget was unlimited I'd be very tempted to get such a crazy unique watch, that's also fine for daily wear and an active life.

Personally I like this variant of 'most/ever..' more than the mega thin or mega deep watches of late. Both of which seem like bonkers goals to strive for and compromise daily wearability.

Never owned a Ming but they make some fascinating watches.

I absolutely love this

·

Those are pretty cool.

It's beautiful but it's not for me. These extremely expensive and profoundly impressive pieces, I find, are wonderful to look at and appreciate but I could never wear it and that will always matter to me.

·

Ounces are pounds, pounds are pain amiright? 🤏🏻

Jokes aside I'm kinda impressed they got it so thin and retained some hardiness, considering the dimensions.

·

I'd also like errbody to note, when going for the extreme, Ming did go with fixed/integrated lugs. Yea I know, trad bars wouldn't fit, doesn't matter.

Just like Eone and a few others, fixed lugs are better....🤏🏻🤘🏻🤙🏻

I actually love the pre production/prototype white one more than the dark one. That running "star" is so clever and beautiful too.

·

This is absolutely insane. Would love to be able to have one.

·

That's crazy!

Amazing watch. I am impressed how Ming continue to innovate and push the boundaries of watch making. But the price is too much for me.

This watch is sbsolutely not designed for daily wear, nor will it be good for any active lifestyle lol. It is made almost exclusively as an engineering and artistic practice, and it is absolutely amazing.

I love the clever integration of the movement holder into the midcase and the use of painted crystal to replace parts of a dial. I love the 3-piece case that are held together by 4 screws, and the milled-out buttresses in the back. It is an engineering masterpiece.

I’m liking the idea of fixed as well, having had the odd springbar pop out on me - but thankfully no watches have taken a tumble or gone in the drink 🌊😅
