Display caseback…on a quartz?

So I picked up this Bruno Söhnle today and I kinda like it (let’s face it, I like all watches). But it always strikes me as odd when a quartz watch has a display caseback. To my thinking that has to add some extra cost to the watch for no real reason. Maybe I’m wrong. Perhaps it still adds that extra touch of class. What say the Crunchers?

Seems they put some effort into making it look good, in which case I don’t mind it. But on an average quartz movement yeah I probably would not go for it

And discomfort too! I agree that this is exactly as silly as it is on any other rear window watch. But it's more fun and way less common.

All glassbacks are unnecessary and I'd rather have solid, opaque, metal.

If it’s a well finished caliber like that one, for sure!

Very rarely would I say a quartz watch warrants a see through case back. Some Grand Seiko’s and a Journe come to mind as having a quartz beautiful enough to see

Craftsmanship is craftsmanshi. Agree that it's not necessary on most watches, mechanical or quartz, but it is kind of cool to see on a quartz

We’d at least know what battery to get without having to remove the caseback 😉

If it’s an interesting quarts movement, I’ll take an exhibition caseback.

That's a beautiful case back, I'm glad they did it on THIS. Now if it's not finished to this standard, definitely not necessary but with finishing like that, I'm really glad they did.

It's not any worse or better than a display caseback on a mechanical watch. I don't care much either way as I don't really look at the back of my watch much and there's no comfort difference for me either.

That Bruno Söhnle looks stunning!

I have a VK64 mechaquartz with a semi-transparent caseback.

Doesnt do anything for me...i mean, nothing is really happening so what's the point? Instead, should have just engraved the caseback..

I have a skeleton quartz Swatch and the only part that visibly moves is a tiny lever when you pull the crown out. It’s totally unnecessary but I find it hilarious, so whatever makes you smile!

Man this is a hard pick for me. I've had 2 quartz with see thru. One was bland and pointless and the other, for the life of me I cant remember the movement in it right now, was actually nice to look at so I didn't mind. Point being I guess it just depends on what's inside for me. This is one helluva beautiful piece though my friend! Absolute 🔥!
