First trip to my Rolex AD.....

Stopped into the AD for the first time. I have been emailing Hayley my sales person about my interest in the Sub date. She invited me to stop in and check out the watch in person. I finally got the chance to visit and check out the 126610LN.

We chatted a bit and think I made a good impression. She complimented the Hamilton I had on and we chatted more about different watch. Hayley was quite versed in different brands. Not going to lie I was impressed.

I was able to take a few pics before I left. Had a great time. Hope to get a call sometime soon.

Every time I go to a Rolex AD, it seems like a job interview. 🥲

·

Sorry, but this bugs me every time I see it. SHE should be the one concerned about making a good impression, not you. You don't need to buy an overpriced watch but they do need to sell them.

·

Getting the Sub means you passed the interview and got the job! Good luck 🤙

·

I sort of feel sorry for Rolex owners. They are the piggies in the middle. Derided by the common folk for paying too much for a fairly generic watch and simultaneously ignored by those who own high horology for owning a fairly generic watch.

·

Good luck.

·

Hang on, you spent a month emailing the AD before you got an invite to just get on a waiting list?!

Ha ha ha no, I was invited to visit on the first call but I live 2 hrs away from my AD. So it took a bit to find myself in the area of the AD. I did not want to take a drive just to look at the watch.

I feel the same but, If all I have to do is wait patiently and be personable to get a new authentic sub at retail. I am in.

·

I have been in sales and understand customer return. Chances are they are on commission and if I show a bit of customer loyalty that loyalty just may be returned in kind. It is as simple as being humble and personable. That is why I said she was my sales person.

I was up front with her saying this was my first rolex purchase. I am shure she was not impressed but she was knowledgeable in my hamilton identifying it as the "spirit of liberty" and love how they wrote on the band a quote from Alexander Hamilton. Again why I was impressed. Not alot of people know that little factoid. Over all it was a plesent experience and I hope it will get me the sub date at retail. But we shall see.

Still quite shocked that you have to "make good impression" at the AD... Amazing that this is necessary to just buy a watch... I heard that this dealer behavior is also happening with luxury women's handbags... Need to develop a "history" of buying at their store before you are "allowed" to buy what you actually came for. Until now I never was interested in Rolex watches... but I am scared that I might develop an interest in the future.... 😉

Glad that you write also that it was a pleasant experience... 😀

yeah best analogy I've ever heard is, a watchmaker said, "Rolex makes nice $1,000 watches". In other words they are so overpriced. Imagine being a AD and expecting people to grovel, demean themselves so that they can give you tens of thousands of dollars! Hysterical.

·

I never understood why people feel the need to buy something they have to beg for.

Oh, they will sell them alright!

It's a status thing within a herd mentality

·

Reminder: not everyone with a Rolex had to beg for one or be put on a waiting list first. I went to a jewelry store (first time) to try on some Tudors and Cartiers, and the sales associate sold me a Rolex Datejust instead. It was at the beginning of this year.

·

My AD said I should get my sub date before the end of the year. Hope you get yours soon too!

Its funny when we started our chat she was saying 12 to 24 months. But after our having a few laughs talking about watches and telling her my reason for buying a rolex....... her time frame dropped to a few months and she will be in touch. So fingers crossed for me.... and well done for you.

What’s that etched on the side, a QR code?

I just put my name down about a month ago, but I’ve been going to the same AD for a few years now. It’s nice having a lot of the watches I love in one store.

I dont know did not ask.... what you see was the display watch they had. So, I did not pay too much attention to it. Watches on display at the AD are not for sale. Fact I was suprised they had operating movements in them.

·

I get you man!

Good luck!

·

Even my local AD, who has many CPO Rolexes, is doing a lottery style drawing/list to sell those. It is probably, Rolex, one of the best marketing models ever—supply never meets demand!

·

I hate this bs, the sub is a nice watch. However it’s not worth the grief just to get one! Its a watch thats it! There is literally hundreds of watches that are cheaper and better than the Rolex sub Mariner. We need to do better and not pamper to these brands. Each to their own I guess.😊😊😊🤝

You are correct it is bs.... we could pick one up today in the gray market for a premium price. But I wanted to see what it would take to get one at retail from my local AD.

All I have done is visit and be personable and have a conversation about watches. It is not like I had to buy rings and other items to be put on a list. Thats not happening. If I have to wait 4 to 6 months for a sub... sure ill do that. I just have to get in line. It is what it is.

Yes I agree that purchasing a luxury item ( especially a nice watch ) should be an “experience”. Hope you get one soon 😊🤝
