Frustrated!

Sorry guys, but this is just probably gonna sound more like a rant. Tried to purchase the Lorier Hyperion this morning when they became available. The entire lot was sold out probably within 30 seconds to people who had probably a faster processor or purchasing software. I was typing in the initials we wanted to have engraved on the two watches (one for me and one for my son) in my cart. Might have been on their site for a minute or a minute and 15 seconds. When I selected check out, the watches had been removed from my cart, and they were sold out. I am beyond disappointed.

Any recommendations for an alternative GMT?

Sorry to hear about the experience! Marc from Islander is dropping some new GMTS!

·

Long Island Watch is absolutely the best. Marc is an absolute gentleman and a pleasure to work with.. I would be honored to have a GMT from Island Watch. (I hope it has the Miyota 9075).

·

I believe there will be a new Islander GMT released this Tuesday that looks somewhat similar to that Lorier but with a cloud pattern dial, but it will have an NH34.

·

No doubt whatever Mark produces will be beautiful and beautifully made. I fly airplanes for living, and actually the True GMT function of the Miyota 9075 is very important to me. I have other caller GMT‘s, but this particular movement is what I’m after. I know that Vaer and Jack Mason also produce GMT‘s with this movement but they don’t come anywhere close to the aesthetic of the Lorier.

·

I would look into Christopher Ward. Like Long Island watch with excellent customer service and better spec watches.

·

I will definitely do that. I’ve never owned a Christopher Ward, and I do understand they are beautifully made. Thank you very much for the suggestion.

·

Not in the same league but may help the itch until they become available again.

That is indeed a time piece to be very proud of…. It it a Boldr?

·

Mark has a YouTube channel plus he works with the Urban Gentry podcast

·

Thank you, I am familiar ( and pretty loyal watcher) with it and also an owner of their collaboration Rangemaster. wouldn’t we love to see those two come up with a GMT!

·

Long Island GMTs are NH34. I am sure Marc will be releasing a Myota model in the not too distant future.

Lorier is phenomenal, but their production lots are small. Probably they do it this way to have the high standard QC they have.

A number of brands are selling or will sell soon. Amongst those are Jack Mason, Vaer, Boldr, Traska, RZE, and Vario.

I'm frustrated because I bought one of these two years ago. At the time it cost $800, and had a caller's Soprod GMT movement. With this release they started using the Miyota flyer's GMT, and dropped the price $200. And they have since upgraded the design, so the lug to lug is 2mm shorter, which would fit me better. It's nobody's fault, so sigh, that's life, so it goes. I would get one of the new ones in a hot second if I didn't have one of the old ones. Just venting a little.

·

Sorry for your disappointment!

I saw this morning that Seiko has lunch few GMTs, I saw a cool Alpinist and a Sumo with GMT functionality

Well, my experience so far has been frustrating, of course. But you need to be faster than a hot second apparently to even get one nowadays. Thanks for posting.👍🏻

I am familiar with most of those brands, and I appreciate your comment because I believe it’s entirely true that Lorier produces exceptional watches in very small quantities. It all comes down to a certain aesthetic, and I’ve yet to see one to match. Time will tell. Thanks for the post.👍🏻

I also have the Soprod and I bought it when they announced they were moving to the Miyota. It is a swiss movement. You could sell yours and get the one with the the Japanese movement since it seem your motivation is the 2mm reduction in lug to lug. I don't think however that you will be able to get more than the current price of the Hyperion. This change might be worth it for you if the 2mm is a huge annoyance.

I'm interested in a flier GMT, and the better fit. I tried on the version 2, with the new case design, but still the Soprod movement. It looked and wore better. A true GMT does work better as a travel watch, I tried. "Swiss" by itself doesn't mean much to me. I have no objection to Soprod, but the flier GMT functionality isn't there, and it's not a well known or respected movement, so I don't know what "Swiss" gets me. It was the only "affordable" GMT movement at the time, so it makes sense that they used it, but it also makes sense that they moved on to the Miyota when it became available, with the better, or at least more desirable (and it is what I want) jumping hours hand, and is cheaper to boot. Miyota is certainly better known, and arguably more respected. At least it's a known quantity; there's very little information out there about Soprod.

And I presume I would get less than price of the current Hyperion. $600 is now the benchmark new, and mine is 2 years and used. And it's the hot watch of the moment; the old Hyperion didn't sell out in a hot second when I bought it. I don't really sell watches, so it's probably not the really worth the trouble for to me to sell.

Traska GMT is awesome

I have another GMT that has the function you are taking about: Tudor Black Bay Pro.

I have another GMT that has the function you are taking about: Tudor Black Bay Pro.

It doesn't have a rotating bezel. And it's like 7 times the price.

My ideal GMT is a flier GMT with a rotating bezel. Then you set the GMT hand to GMT, the hour hand to local time, and flip the rotating bezel to whatever other time you want to track. I already have flier GMTs, but with no bezel.

At the moment I have my eye on a Longines Zulu time, but that will have to wait a while. The new Hyperion would fit the bill until I get around to getting something fancier.

Nice looking piece I would be frustrated as well. I agree with the first couple of comments I would try Long Island watches. Idk how far from NYC you are but there’s the Windup Watch Fair the end of October Lorier will be there maybe they’ll have more by then or at least you can put an order in. Could be a nice dudes day out for you and your son.

I’ve always wanted to go to the windup Watch fair, problem is I live in North Idaho… But who knows? Might have to pull that “guy trip” out of my hat and head east for a weekend. I really love that idea!

·

BLUF: I am a fan of Lorier.

That being said, I've had to wait very patiently for the Falcon to come back in stock several times, before I was able to get one.

They will get more in..if that is the watch you want, why settle for another?

My wife got me a Neptune SIII in '21 as an anniversary gift precisely because of the design AND the blank caseback for engraving.

·

Yes! My wife and I have decided to be patient… it will come to us in time. Thanks for the Afirmation

Yea bro if you can swing it then definitely do it, I believe it’s gonna be a watch crunch meetup at 7p.

·

None of the alternatives bring the 60s vibes of Lorier. Most "vintage" themed watches bring 1970s vibes and that's something completely different.

·

That is really unfortunate! If you're looking for an alternative, the Christoper Ward Sealander GMT is probably one of my favorites!
