Show us your treasured ‘theme watch’

I was nine-years old when Star Wars Episode 4 hit Earth like a Death Star beam. In Salt Lake in 1977, only the Center Theater downtown played the movie — so to see it, you waited in a line that stretched around the block.

Image

The first time I saw the movie, while sitting among a cheering crowd in the refrigerated buttery popcorn-scented theater (in one of the red cloth-clad seats) I witnessed the first of many uproarious applauses from the standing-room-only patrons early in the movie while the Tantive IV was being chased down by the Star Destroyer over Tatooine. My heart swelled like a balloon in the excitement…as I knew this new pop culture event would affect me the rest of my life.

I bought my Stormtrooper watch to celebrate all of the great times I’ve had through the years delving into the Franchise through the movies and the Kenner toys and action figures I had as a kid. I can still remember me loading Luke into my X-Wing’s cockpit and running around with it high above my head while I pushed the button that activated the laser sounds and red light that glowed in the nose cone.

Great bygone days. Only memories now. No better way to celebrate it than with my Stormtrooper watch.

Show us your treasured ‘theme watch’, why you bought it…and what it means to you.

Those dials are beautiful. They exude a deep shimmering substance. You can tell they are of great quality.

I bought the Speedmaster professional to celebrate all my trips to space…

Okay seriously, I have one that I THINK qualifies:

I bought the Ball Engineer III Marvelite Caring Edition because I’m a biochemist that was heavily involved in the tech transfer of the Covid Vaccine. The rainbow colors of the caring edition was introduced during lock downs to remind us of hope. The tritium lume has some great chemistry vibes. The 904L steel and screw down crown provides additional corrosion resistance when working in a laboratory and the 1000 gauss anti-magnetism is perfect for the instruments I use. Ball watch was founded on safety, to prevent railroad collisions, and the case back features a train to remind us of safety first. Finally, the movement is COSC certified just as we calibrate all of our instruments to ICH guidelines to ensure accuracy.

All together this watch represents my career and is the perfect everyday tool watch for me.

I have a thing for porcelain dials, and am always on the lookout for the perfect one to add to my collection. The First Pitzmann comes pretty close. Is cold enamel considered porcelain?

Love it! Back in the day, Luke was dressed in his white smock, and tan trousers while holding a yellow light saber. I would have loved to own a figure wearing his flight suit.

Great H-link too

Thank you. It’s a bit ostentatious, but does well with the overall design.

I like how the hands look like light sabers.
