My New Treehut Koa Watch. Show Us Your Wooden Watch!

The annual day of joy, holly and gift-giving came to a crescendo last evening when my son gifted me my new Treehut Koa wood watch!

Image

Adorned with a genuine green marble dial, applied silver markers and fencepost hands, this down-played design is well-executed by its soft, warm, all Koa wood surroundings. The second hand ticks steadily and accurately around the dial by means of its Miyota GM10 movement. The watch nestles itself nicely on my 7 & 1/4 inch wrist…showing off its stately…but not overly-large 43mm case.

Image

The Koa tree is a broad, imposing tree that paints a savannah-like landscape where flora and fauna may freely roam. My new Koa watch weighs only 43 grams which makes it feel like ‘freedom to roam’ on my wrist.

Treehut is a family-owned company in San Francisco formed in 2014. Their fledgling company has evidently burgeoned into something special…as this new watch from my son indeed feels special to wear and show off!

Show us your wooden watch. Or have you been thinking about getting one yourself?

I’ve had this a few years and barely worn it. It needs a battery change, but maybe I’ll try to wear it some this year and see if I like it more.

Fantastic! I was delightfully-surprised myself. The wood is just so smooth and comfortable.

That’s funny, I’m always telling people that you’re the worst.

I've never seriously considered a wooden watch; they're more on the gimmicky side of the watch market. With their basic lack of durability, and the fact that the wood will break down in time pretty much no matter what you do (short of not wearing it), try to wear it sparingly and it will last you the longest time.

I don’t know exactly, but this was from the 80s when Tissot played around with case materials (See the ‘rock watch’).

I’ve always had a soft spot for Tissot.

Great and unique watch!

Do you mind to explain the mnemonic a little bit more?  It sounds pessimistic for me, but if it empowers wifey and you I’m all for it 👊💪

Ive not engraved any of my watches, but like the idea for ones that I’ll never sell.

Whenever we would judge people, the other would say "You are the worst."

Since it came from a place of love, it forced us to think about what we were doing.

Then it became "I'm the worst." when we were able to recognize our issues.

Now "We are the worst." is mostly "I love you."

Appreciate that. Letting people know upfront I'm the worst has really saved a lot of people disappointment. ;)

No worries there. It just means I will appreciate it more during the time I own it.

That's just it - if you're at peace with the fact that this will never be a long-term family heirloom sort of thing (which is the default setting most people have for beloved pieces), it's all good. Wear it in good health!

Mine was gift from my wife. I wear it on occasion, as not to dent it. But definitely a watch I would never flip ❤️

Me either. When you get it as a thoughtful gift, its personal value really increases.

That would be something wooden it. But sadly no, it's fixed.
