You see more interesting dials on cheap watches.

Maybe why I like a cheap watch is because it often has a cool dial with raised markers, numerals, and textured designs incorporated throughout. Best of all…the watch does the same thing its far-pricier counterparts do…tell time (and really accurately)!

Look, there will never be a time on god’s green earth I’d be able to afford dropping $5400 on a watch. But for heaven’s sake…could one at least distance its design a little more from say…a Timex Expedition? I think I’m just going to stick to collecting cheap watches with cool dials that I can include in my budget…instead of breaking my bank.

What do you think? Can you be happy with a cube steak…or must you have the prime rib (with a side of horseradish)?

Cube steak for me and Dairy Queen for dessert!! I’m happy with my 10 budget watches, but that’s just my preference. I don’t begrudge anyone their choice, and enjoy seeing the top end watches here. Just like I will never own a Lamborghini, but it is still exciting to see one on the road!!

Love me some Armitron watches.

I agree that the lower end has more interesting designs per watch unit, but if I bought every interesting watch I could afford, I could build a house out of all the packaging...

Hmm... There's an idea. 🤔

I think the general market views the subtle and simple dials as more elegant and upscale, which makes it more profitable for the luxury companies to make them, but it's up to taste at the end of the day. Some people love the look of a clean rolls royce gracefully pulling up to a fancy restaurant, and other people like a muddy, modded land cruiser grumbling up to a drive through window for milkshakes. It's just what people like, market be damned. If you give land cruiser guy more money, he'll just buy more spare parts and more milkshakes. We don't all have to value the same things.

One man’s cool and interesting is another’s gaudy and childish.

Well-said!

And, of course, the opposite is true: one man’s subtle and refined is another’s bland and unimaginative

Manufacturers know their market. The truly poor and the ultra rich like ridiculous looking things. Cars, watches, clothing.
