I get the idea but I also don't do the ticking boxes thing. You could just as easily decide the collection should have dials of white, black, blue, silver and gold.
Field / flieger will never be in my collection, and my beaters are £10 AliX that are only worn for DIY/ gardening, so I don't consider a beater to be part of any collection. 🤷

Interesting opinion, more so that your beater isn't classed as in your collection.
No, because it means you could be done at 5 watches. Add a few more categories and subcategories and don't limit yourself to one watch per category, now you're talking.
Missed the Pilot watch and the "solar radiocontrolled" to have a piece that you can use to set your other watches. Beater is a term I personally don't like, I treat all my watches with a certain respect.
Dress, Everyday and Beater I think is the perfect collection.
Simple and covers all the bases. Your definition of each could be different based on your situation. Dress just means something specifically for formal occasions. Everyday is something water resistant that can go anywhere but doesn’t look out of place in a somewhat business casual situation. Beater meaning sports watch that can take some abuse and doesn’t have to work in any type of formality.
IMO I don’t like to build a collection based on having to cover every watch type. Understanding your needs, budget, and staying true to yourself is key to building a genuine watch collection. only my 2 cent thought. 🪙 🪙
I categorise my watches by situations, not by type of the watch, to avoid having too many watches suited for one particular situation and ending up not wearing some watches.

Need a pilot watch in there, but that could be a Chrono I guess.
Yes I agree, or it could be a field aswell.
Not for me, zero interest in "ticking the boxes" ....if I see something I like I get it.
add one gada and one flieger and that would be perfect

That's understandable. I quite like having a different watch for a purpose and covering all basis.
Have you seen Autodromo Chronos? Tempted to pull the plug myself .... quite quirky and fun designs

My watch box has six slots, and I don’t wear dress watches, so:
Chronograph, Mechanical Field, Automatic Diver, G-Shock, Quartz Field, Quartz Diver.

Business - JLC Master Control Geographique (38mm)
Smart Casual - JLC Polaris Automatic
Casual - Omega SMP 300m Seaweed
Hike - Sinn EZM3
