Watch Legibility

The main thing I prioritize when buying a watch is legibility. As a matter of fact, if a watch is illegible, no matter how exclusive, (casting a sidelong glance at Hublot and Richard Mille) in my opinion it has failed its primary purpose and I am not interested. What do you prioritize in a watch?

Good question! I would say confortability, which for me implicates relative thiness (less or around 12mm)...

·

Overall aesthetic. It has to look good to my eyes, legibility is part of that for me.

·

Definitely legibility and comfort, fit on the wrist is important too

·

I would say overall look + comfort on wrist are the key factors, legibility I normally leave for second place

·

Aesthetic for me. To be honest I don't actually care if I can easily read the time, I can go the whole day without needing to know, but I like to see something pretty on my wrist.

·

I am with you on actually being able to read the time by looking just once...LOL

I’m big on legibility, too. It’s a very important element of the design of a watch, and although I can really get a kick out of a magnificent high horology skeletonised dial, generally they’re a struggle to read.

Here are a couple of seriously legible watches that I have:

Legibility & accuracy/precision , then heritage and history. Obviously gotta like the overall looks too.

But top priority is it's function as a basic timekeeper.

·

Fosure legibility and aesthetic is priority but I also value the watch thickness.

less than 12mm is bronze; 11mm is silver; 10mm is gold imo.

I think I would say "uniqueness". Like my Vostok which has a 24 hour hand and a second time zone on a bezel. Or my Herbelin which is stupid thin, or my Aragon which is stupid thick. I dig uniqueness, but its gotta be beautiful and functional as well.

Recently I've picked up some vintage pieces, while the movements are a work of art, the cases are somewhat bad. Still figuring out what I like in that arena.

But yea, to your point, if you can't read it, why bother?

I value haestetic and quality since a watch is a jewel for me. Value for money is good, but in the end I want a good piece.

That ML is stunning

I like to be able to tell the time with just a glance, so I'll have to have legibility as my number 1 choice. Love the San Martin, own the same one, just put it on a grey leather strap🙂

I don't mind the bracelet, but I can see a gray leather strap.

I prioritize size. I have a smaller wrist and am in love with smaller watches. I really like the classic look they give. 36mm is my sweet spot and I will always choose to get close to that. I have some larger watches but love the small ones more. I will go up to 39mm in some occasions but I prefer to stay closer to 36mm. I do have a 48mm Corum Admirals Cup Seafender Tides which is a monster but that was a gift haha. Love it a lot even though it is massive. Nowadays if I am looking for a new watch, even if I love everything else about it, I won't consider it unless it is 36-39mm, preferably 36mm.

Legibility above all! That’s why I like field watches!
