Opinions on vintage Seiko Credor?

I think the title says it all, but on my journey down the JDM rabbit hole I was reminded of Credor.

I know that modern Credor watches are high end luxury watches, but do WC people have any experience with vintage quartz Credor watches? I have found a fair few online and they are a lot more affordable and therefore very tempting!

I am curious too. I keep hearing about Credor being the pinnacle of Seiko, and see how expensive new ones are. Then I see decent-seeming used ones for sale for $200. Not sure what gives.

The ones I've seen didn't look high end. I'm wondering how the Credor brand is/was really positioned in the Seiko line up.

This is exactly what I am wondering. Loads of options for small dress watch but just not sure if the quality of those older models is in line with what we read about now. Glad I am kit the only one thinking this

Yeah, forgiving damaged and well worn examples there are still lots at affordable few hundred dollars which look interesting but wonder if they really are anything special

If I'm not mistaken, Credor is the higher end models of Seiko, it's basically one step down from Grand Seiko in the hierarchy of the Epson Seiko group. Great quality of watches if I must say.

I thought that Credor was positioned above GS nowadays?

You might be right, which adds more value.

I haven't found one that appeals to me but I would grab one given the chance. Minor problem, most of them are small size which don't work with my large wrist.

I have a small collection of them that I am very proud of. They are beautiful pieces if you can find them in good condition, and certain models are definitely unique. All of mine still work perfectly even though they are from the 80’s. They are watches that are more focused on looking classy and elegant than on the movement itself

Yeah I have spent a portion of my time measuring my wrist to get an idea of how it might look! 🤣

Thanks for sharing good to hear from someone who collects them!

Looks good even when seen up close and personal. My modest size wrist makes one like this gold tone black dial example a nice, no worries, elegant option and a super affordable addition.

Lovely little dress piece, thanks for sharing.

It is positioned above GS.

The order from low to high end:

Alba ➡️ Seiko ➡️ GS ➡️ Credor

From the comments above and on an older CW post it feels like originally this was not the case and Credor was a JDM only dress watch brand which focused on smaller simpler watches with precious metals, lots of vintage quartz with 18k gold bezels from my ebay and Chrono24 searches?

I think Seiko have been reshuffling some of their brands over the past couple of decades so now Credor is above GS

oof this is neat.

this is absolutely neat.

What's the diameter of the watch and what's your wrist size? I'm curious because it's a perfect fit.

It might sound strange but I absolutely love small dress watches with a quartz movement, and I think it's a better fit than a mechanical for that type of watch, because of how thin you can make a watch with it.

I have quartz Raymond Weil Tradition tank and the watch is only a bit thicker than a strap that holds it. Screams elegance.
