NWA - Pre-owned goodness

After another late night eBay session, my latest acquisition has winged its way to my door, and once again I am happy that I scored a little bargain. The condition seemed fair, the Kinetic movement was double ticking and the bidding was at around £30 but what really struck me (and I could get some heat for this) was how much it resembled a Seiko Alpinist. Either way, the case shape, dial colour, hands and indices appealed to me and I followed the auction

SELLERS PHOTO’S 👆

The auction ran its course and the watch was won for the princely sum of £35. The hope was that a simple polish/brush and fitting a new capacitor would give me a little project. When it arrived the bracelet was standard Seiko fare and not really worth saving, any gold trim was long since gone and as per my ‘Alpinist’ theory I quite fancied it on leather anyway so it was off with the bracelet and on with a strap. Whilst the condition of the watch was fair it was also incredibly dirty so the case had a warm soapy bath, and a rub down with a cotton tip

AFTER A HOT BATH AND A NEW STRAP 👆

The ‘double tick’ of the second hand (Kinetics tick once every two seconds when the charge is low) was cured by simply doing the ‘Seiko Shuffle’ while watching TV with Mrs DAF_punk. After about 10 minutes of ‘shuffling’ the watch was ticking correctly and the charge indicator showed full. The watch was still ticking this morning so I gave it a very light polish and brush, and stuck it on my wrist.

I’m really pleased with the look of the watch on leather. I maintain the watch gives me ‘Alpinist’ vibes, and it is very comfortable on the wrist. I plan to do a little more finishing, but I’ll wear it for a while and bask in my short live glow of smugness until the next ‘that’s to cheap to turn down’ watch appears

Just thought I’d share. Thanks for reading If you got this far.

Agree it definitely has Alpinist vibes.

Cool watch, a bargain beauty 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻

Another Kinetic Chris 👍 looks like you've been hooked. Hope you enjoy this as much as your other. And yes, looks great on leather

There is definitely a rabbit hole of cheap watches. I loves me a bargain 😂

Great find! That color scheme is quite desirable. Love the full lumed dial.

It’s definitely a very pretty watch, quite simple just with some nice touches. It was the dial colour that drew me in, especially with the gold detail 👍

If you can cope with the kinetic movement there are some bargains out there as they are generally disliked (a failed technology)

Definitely. I’m trying to work out which ones were the real top end models like the Premier and Arctura’s. You could really go on a spree and not spend a lot of money 💰

There is a titanium ags kinetic diver that looks nice too.

Don’t show me this stuff man, I have no will power and want a GMT 😍

The dimensions might put you off, it's 48/51/16 with 24mm lugs.

·

Congratulations on the new watch. Agree with you about the resemblance to the Alpinist

Sounds a bit like Tuna dimensions 👍

·

Congrats! That leather strap and that watch perfect match

They call it the kinetic tuna, the automatic/solar version has never appealed to me.

This is one I was looking at

That dial 👌😍

Sorry I hadn’t seen this post of your Chris. I really love your find. Such a good bargain too. It does indeed resemble the Alpinist 👌

Very cool watch! Enjoy 👏

A definite alpinist vibe for half a tank of petrol. That's a great deal! I need to start reading up on seiko kinetics!!

I haven’t worn any of them for a good few months and they were still ticking away the other day when I checked. I’ll need to give them some wear soon though 👍

Hi Chris. Just revisiting this post. I'm not sure I appreciated how good looking it really is.. have you added more pics?

It's a great looking watch, mate and I can see your comparison with an Alpine.

Also enjoy your pics.. Carcassonne brings back memories of a 3 months House Sit there a few years ago.

Can I ask how many watches your roll holds. I've got one that holds 3 and I'm thinking I need something larger

It hasn’t been out of the box for a while mate, I might double wrist for a couple of days and charge it. Pretty sure if it was a real Alpinist it would get a lot more wear but the cream dial version is quite an investment.

If we ever got out to France, this area would be where we would go mate. Good access to Spain, in the foothills of the Pyrenees is my idea of paradise.

It’s three watch roll, so with one on the wrist that’s four watches. TBH I’m thinking about getting a single and just going with two (1 wet 1 dry) I really wear more than that.

I like these. If I get another ‘watch roll’ it’ll be a variant of this 👇

Yeah, I did look at these single boxes, but I'm really looking for something to keep my watches together when I'm traveling in the van. I might go this route

They look up to the job 👌I have a couple of these bigger ones I can recommend if you want waterproof 👇👍

Thanks, Chris. I should have said, I'm limited for space. I have a small secure cupboard it needs to fit into

Very Alpinist-y!

I’ve never owned kinetic but remember being quite fascinated by them when they were released. B4 ever getting one, I switched to dreaming of one day getting a spring drive 🙄

BTW - great pictures. Looks pro. Second look I’m also noticing the rehaut inside has some cool details and the indices are pink? Wow 🤩

Thanks man 🍻I’ve dipped my toes into kinetics as I had that same fascination when they were released. I have found they can had quite reasonably as the tech is often considered out of date - I think this was £36. The top button is for a power indicator and the colour on the rehaut is related to that 👍

I still dream of a spring drive.

I have this one in your pic

Nice carrying case. I needed to cut down the foam slightly so my tiny wrist size watches would fit

Not waterproof per se but fine for a rainy day. Like backpack level water resistant

Looks great and a good price too 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
