Too many watches. Seriously.

I think I'm finally seeing my tipping point of "Too many watches" like everybody here I LOVE watches. But there is a problem. No matter which one I wear I want to wear a different one. I can be sitting there in the morning with my coffee and I will get it down to 4-5 choices and I'm just paralyzed by it.

Some days it will be so bad, I'll put one or two extra in a zippered pocket of my purse (handbag) in case the urge to swap out is too much to stand when I'm out and about, When I have a classic on my left wrist, an Apple watch Ultra on my right. A pocket watch and, maybe one or two more in a pocket in my bag, its gone much too far. Yay obsessive compulsive disorder.

If I could have my one and only grail it might be different. But that's not going to happen. This is what happens when a hobby turns into an affliction.

For me, watches are an accessory and more often than not, the ONLY accessory I wear. With that, I've managed to accumulate quite a few "affordables" in different dial and strap combinations for most everyday wear, saving my nicer vintage watches to wear for special occasions. Don't worry about it, life is short. Feed your passion and do what makes you happy! 😊

·

I don't have that dilema. I have 2 watches, a no date Sub which is my everyday, and my GShock for when I'm out jogging..

·

I think you're preaching to the choir here 😀. It gets even worse when your strap collection over takes your watch collection. I might only change my watch twice a day but a strap does well to last the hour! 🤯

·

And I thought I was bad. I have a rather elaborate system, planning on what clothes I wear, strap colors, watch styles (quartz during travel, diver on the weekend, etc.), and then the overall rotation of the mechanical watches, so that every on of them is worn on a bi-weekly basis.

To many watches isn’t in my vocabulary yet 😅

It will be if you are in this hobby long enough.

Fair enough

I only have 3 daily wear watches. I have a 3 day rotation i wear them in (except for the g- shock when i do yardwork) and i rarely falter from it. I don't have to choose i just wear the next one in the rotation

So easy.

I can overthink ANYTHING, for me overthinking is a way of life. I am crazy after all.

·

I am seriously thinking of paring down to maybe 5 or 7 watches. I have to be ruthless though in killing the little darlings, which I don't think I'm there yet. But I can feel it in my bones, soon.

I need to lay all mine out and take a picture again, trouble is there are two sets. Rotation and not rotation which contains the watches that don't work properly or in a few cases at all.

At the very least, surely we can allow ourselves to get rid of those that don't work properly?

·

Not sure you understand addiction 😉

·

Small box: short rotation (all working)

Large box: long rotation (all working)

Nightstand drawer: occasional weekend wear (working)

Desk drawer: In the queue to go to the watchmaker (not working well enough)

Car: on the way to the watchmaker tomorrow (not working)

At the watchmaker (now working again)

It sounds crazy to see it written down.

·

Maybe I'll just try to stick to one watch for a month. Just to see if I can?

·

I've fantasised about locking all but 2-3 in the safe, for a couple of months, and rotating those 2-3 with glee every so often

·

Congratulations on your sobriety! Of course it is though.

Ooouuufffff! Nice vintage Ploprof, some watch that 🙏🏼

It's like when you bought extra meal incase you're hungry late at night. Most often than not, you'll eat it just because it is available to you. I feel the same with watches, I have 20ish watches and the urge to swap and wear all of em in one day is almost unbearable.

Never say never 🙏🏼 I’ve looked at those steeldives what they like? Looks an amazing piece

I hear ya. There is part of me who wants to sell the whole colletion to get down to three watches. I would miss too many of my current watches though I think. Though if I did sell them all I would have enough for a GP laureato for my daily, duo face jlc reverso for my dress watch and I think I would keep the bel canto on the way for my fun “interesting “ watch.

I'm old and on disability. Never is a realistic assumption of any watch that costs 1-2 years of my current income. This is about as likely as me getting to go on a cruise or dive a car that is less than 15 years old.

Steeldive are generally good, this one has two issues, the spring bar holes are way too close to the edge of the case for my taste, not like I'm diving it in it though. And the bezel is just horrible, albeit ceramic. But its a hefty chunk of steel and sapphire and keeps good time. The nice thing is they listen to feedback and improve with revised models. I have the Steeldive Willard as well though and it has no issues at all. Its the perfect budget diver, And both have a SII made NH-35 in them.

I’ve got the green Willard steeldive and for £69 I can’t complain, I’ve had compliments on it, I swapped the strap for a hawk rigger nato, that looked cool, I know what you mean about wishes and reality, watches in the thousands are a dream for myself too 🙏🏼

That Steeldive Ploprof was $400 from Steeldiveuk.com and it wrecked my fiances for an entire summer. The real watch costs 2-3 times the price of my car, and it took me two years to play for THAT!

Yes I’ve looked at the steeldive ploprof and couldn’t see me spending £400 on it, even though I like it ALOT! the Omega is around £5000 second hand on Chrono24 but that’s out of my price range, I think I’d rather have a Rolex Explorer 1 second hand either 36mm or 39mm

Yes, I understand but I had a choice. It was a homage or nothing. Nothing wasn’t acceptable. I just wish they did a homage at the 70s version not the reissue.
