Best Chronograph under $1500

What are the best chronograph watches on the market today?

Rules:

1. Must be under $1500.

2. No Seagull 1963 variants.

3. No MoonSwatch.

When you say no Sea-Gull 1963 variants do you mean that line specifically or any watches that use the ST1901 movement?

All the variants of the same style of watch you think of when you hear “Seagull 1963”. Not the movement used.

Is this strictly mechanical? No quartz? If you allow for quartz, I'd say look at Citizen. Is grey market OK? I'd look at Hamilton, Tissot, and Bulova. Pre-owned? That will open up more options.

  1. Any Citizen or Seiko solar. Solar movements don't get enough love as is. Solar chronographs like the Speedtimer or Promaster are underrated.

  2. Dan Henry. The brand makes solid quartz chronographs for various eras and nails the styling.

Quartz is perfectly fine!

Sorry for this answer, but the best chronograph in any price range it's the one you like, make no mistake.

Agreed. Which ones do you like?

I second the lunar pilot

Especially in these new colourways!

Depends on what you value when it comes to finding the "best". For me, the best would be the Timex Expedition North Field Chrono. It has 100m WR, sapphire, a steel case, and only costs $350 CAD.

For under $1500 you're not getting anything mechanical that isn't in essence a Sea Gull 1963 dress slightly differently.

Brew makes some super fun chronos. I had the gold/black for a while before selling it on.

Quartz is perfectly fine!

Additionally you may want to look at the Seiko Speedtimer line.
