Help me pick a quartz Chronograph

Looking to add a chronograph to my collection, and I’ve been going back and forth between these 3.

DH - I like the overall design, no date, mega-quartz, I have never owned a dan Henry so idk how the quality is.

813 - I like the size, like the white date wheel, don’t like the lack of lume.

911 - prefer the 39mm but I like the lume better than the 813. I think the hands are better on this one too.

Anything else I should consider? Anyone own both the Dan Henry and one of the seikos?

Tough choice but I'm thinking the Dan Henry. I went this direction because of the size of the dial. Provided these are to scale, otherwise this whole statement goes out the window and I would go with the 911. Also, the thickness of the bezel on the Dan Henry really opens up the dial while still being legible. Good luck on your decision.

I won’t be any help. I have a Dan Henry 1962 and a Seiko SSC819.

Dan Henry is a very solid offering for the money. If budget is a concern (or not) it’s a great option.

The SSC81(3/9) is perhaps my nicest watch and the size is perfect for my 6.4”/16.5cm wrist. (But I bought with the help of gift cards, so was affordable to me.)

The 911 wears too big for me. My $0.02

This does help actually. Budget isn’t a concern since I’m not looking to buy immediately. I can either buy the dan Henry soon or just keep saving for the Seiko to buy later this year.

How’s the pusher action? Reviewers say the Dan Henry is more tactile and the Seiko isn’t since its solar

I would go for the Dan Henry, looks like it's based on a Universal Geneve chronograph

I don't think it makes sense to spend more than £300 to £400 on a quartz chronograph, most of the movements cost no more than £20 to £40 at most.

Dan Henry is a meca-quartz (Seiko) where the small seconds hand ticks at once per second, like a quartz, but the chrono has a higher beat, smoother action. The reset is a very tactile mechanical snap back to zero. See: meca-quartz movement

The Speedtimer’s solar quartz smoothly drives the second hand back to zero. The reset button can be used for lap/split times, too. The DH mecaquartz cannot do lap/splits because the reset is mechanical. 👍🏻

FWIW-the meca-quarts allows chrono function at great price point. I’ve got four meca-quartz from various micro brands. But then I’m frugal…😉

If you care about luminescence in the least, I would not suggest the SSC813, which I own and love. Maybe broaden the search for other sub 40mm chronograph watches?

Lume on hands of 813 is ok, the rest not so much. One thing’s for sure though, it’s very versatile.

I do love the Universal Geneva connection. You have a very good point on the price. Even for solar quartz, you’re still paying a lot for not that much more in terms of watch. I’m heavily leaning towards the Dan Henry. I can add the bracelet and it will still be cheaper than a second hand SSC813.

Thank you, just put the order in for the Dan Henry!

I found the Seiko to be a bit thick (~13mm, if I recall) for a quartz watch. If you are open to used, I suggest checking out Tag Heuer 2000. The panda reference is CK1111 (albeit with blue sub-dials). They can track hours on top of 1/10 of sec, second, and minutes.

I have the black dial with white sub-dials and I love mine, though the lume on the dial is non-existant at this point. These can be had for ~$500 or less.
