First Restoration Project

I found this Quartz Seiko on eBay with a really beat up crystal. To clean it up I used sandpaper. I wet the crystal with water and a q-tip. Started at 600 grit, then 800, 1000, then 2000. Made sure to clean up the crystal in between grits with water. Finished up with polywatch. I think it came out really nice! There’s still one deep scratch, so I found and ordered a replacement crystal but I think this will be good enough to wear until then.

Last night I found more problems. The seconds hand was getting stuck on the minute hand. I opened up the case back and the battery was held in with tape. After fixing the hands, I had to tape the battery back in because it wouldn’t stay in any other way.

Next stop: deep cleaning the case, new crystal, rebrush the bracelet.

Nice work!

Try polywatch, assuming that it’s an acrylic crystal. I used it on my Rolex 1601 Datejust and it did wonders.

That’s actually what I finished up with after the 2000 grit. Forgot to mention that so I just added it to the post

I received the watch below from a wife a long time ago. It stopped working so 2 years ago, I opened it and I found that the battery was held with a piece of tape like you described. I bought a new movement and replaced it. It did have a few scratch on the "glass" that I removed with Polywatch. This is what it looks like today.

I propose that you just replace the movement in the watch that you have since it will not be a big expense.

PS. You badge says COLA WATCHES. Is there watches with cola logos ?

Good point, I think I’m going to try and find a new movement. And as far as I know, no on the cola logos. I’m based in Columbia SC, colloquially known as Cola/Soda City.

You can get a movement on Ebay.
