Anyone else obsessed with having Arabic numerals (regular numbers) on the dial?

Like you get annoyed when a watch you like doesn't have them or some are missing/skipped. Example attached.

I always prefer them. I made a Frankenseiko because I wanted a diver with numerals.

Marathon refuses to remove any of their 24 hour numbers because the spec requires them. For a while my four most expensive watches all had field watch style dials with all the numbers except Hamilton removed the 3 for a date. I don't think lacking them bothers me, but I do like them. My most recent purchase only has 6 and 9 because 12 is a big lume triangle and 3 is replaced with a date. Doesn't bother me.

I used to require them. Not just that, I used to require all 12 of them. Not just that, I used to require flags on 1's.

I kind of still do prefer flags on 1's (after all, the flag differentiates them from I's, l's and |'s), but it's highly typeface dependant.

And to the numerals generally - it's highly design dependant. More often than not, I dislike numerals, because they're not to my liking. Goes both for Arabic and Roman ones. It's hard to do them right. Without numerals, however, the dials are not as quickly legible to me. I misread the time on a Casioak in the past. Alternating numerals and indexes are a nice balance. Explorer 3-6-9 is another neat layout, but that can't have a nice date window except at 12, and nobody does that. 12-3-6 or 12-6-9 are weird. Four main numerals are too strict.

You can alteady see that although my problem is different, I still need help. 😀

I mainly find them to be more important when it comes to a 24-hour scale, but aside from that it doesn’t bother me at all. I have heard this opinion before tho.

Yes I've often missed 1 o'clock meetings because I thought it was L o'clock.

But jokes aside that's exactly why I want numbers. It's fast to read and harder to make mistakes when tired or busy.

It's mostly for clarity more than looks. For me anyways.

My preference would be to have numerals but it’s not a deal breaker

·

I'm more put off by mutilated numerals such as the 6 in your picture rather than missing ones like the 5 and 7.

·

Arabic numerals are an absolute requirement for me! I must have at least 12,3,6, and 9 or it’s a deal killer!

·

Yep I have found I really need arabic numerals on my watches (and as a result I am mainly into field or pilot watches, and not keen at all on divers). I can live with only some of the numbers being there (e.g. Alpinist, Explorer) but I don't really like watches without any numerals.

·

No, I'm obsessed with Roman numerals - like a normal person should be.🤣

Yeah it's a strange design choice. Doesn't bother me a lot but I would have preferred something else.

I don't "need" them, but I prefer the look of having numbers. Preferably big numbers, but not necessarily all of them.
