Months feel like years

Finally got my Pierce Triple Calendar back from the ‘fixers’….after 10 months.

Parts that needed to be replaced and then re-made….it’s been a long process but hey, that’s vintage x complications, for you.

So happy to have it back and running - hopefully it’ll run for a few more years yet!

Triple calendar watches need to make a furious come back! Back in the day( I actually hate that phrase) all the brands made them. Of course there was Omega, Movado, Eberhard even Rolex from an earlier time. I found several triple calendar watches with the mark OPERA on the dials from

a man who was more hoarder than seller was obligated to buy all 3 to make the deal. My watchmaker suggested making one best iteration from the 3 when I delivered the watches to his Chinatown repair shop. It was the last vintage watch that I sold off when I decided vintage was too time consuming. Your Pierce brings back deep regrets of my own foolish decision.

Wow! So beautiful!

You must be over the moon to have it back.

It’s a (relatively) easy complication to do - maybe there will be more brands doing it if we all ‘fly the flag’ a bit more. Microbrands like Maen (triple calendar), Baltic and Furlan Marri (perpetual calendars) are making their own versions of them. Maen are using a Miyota movement - so there are movement makers doing that complication.

The Rolex 6062 is (imo) their best looking watch they’ve ever made.

Thanks and I am. Every few months, I’d get an email saying ‘we’re waiting on a part’ or ‘we need to make a part’ or ‘the timing is not quite right’. There’s been times when I thought it was not worth it but fair play to the watchmaker ( Raphael at Horologium), they persevered and persisted.

Just have to be a bit careful with it

I’ve waited too long but would splurge on a good one. I was very keen on the Breitling Datora until it almost reach 18k cad before taxes, don’t really want a stop watch function. Lastly not an innovation from them, Concepto movement? Where did you source the Pierce? Was quite available years ago??

Just had a look at the Breitling - is a triple calendar or perpetual/annual calendar? With the chrono as well - that does make it a bit more complicated!

I can’t tell you about the movement unfortunately! The Pierce came from a seller in Italy. I was originally just looking a moonphase but when I saw the day/month apertures - I was smitten

The Breitling is a triple calendar. I own a Navitimer 1461 a 4 year annual calendar that requires 1 adjustment every 4 years. Uses a modified ETA movement. Baume & Mercier will be launching a perpetual model with the Riviera line this year. I sense you prefer the antiques over contemporary. For me perpetual and moonphases are really the end game

Thank You for the info. Do you keep your 1461 on a winder or do you adjust whenever you wear it?

If Baume & Mercier are using a modified ETA then I’m sure Swatch Group may filter it across some of their other brands.

I don’t really favour vintage over modern (or vice versa) - I tend to favour more ‘elegant’ looking watches. By ‘elegant’ I do (more often than not) mean thinner watches - be it dive, dress, chronographs, digital, triple calendars. I do think that it’s a bit of a lost art in creating case/movements that are thinner (regardless of case diameter).

That watch is something! Glad you have it back to enjoy it.

No I can’t be bothered with winders, bit of a hassle with the displays but I just wind it twice a day catch hell from the Mrs but such is life of a watch guy. Montblanc has a perpetual but B&M might be independent of that movement. I keep most of my watches in a new plastic tool box that I got for my birthday have no intention of messing it with dirty tools. Europe might still be good for vintage watches that are from 60, 70, 80.

·

That's a seriously beautiful watch! Must be great to be wearing it again!

·

What a beautiful watch brother👌I feel your pain. Not matching your 10 month I got a 29 weeks estimate on one of my Omegas. At least she got a Swishs vacation for the summer.

I’m hoping for a special trip to Switzerland next year to pick something out for my 50th I may have to pick your brains on some pieces!

Thanks Craig. I honestly did not if it’d ever come back as a working watch so it’s just a case of really enjoying it while it’s back and ticking!

Oh my god it looks amazing, absolute fire.

Wow.

So elegant and the size is amazing, proportions are perfect. Cool watch.

Thank You - very kind.

35mm but it’s very proportioned imo. It feels very similar to a modern day 36mm Oris Pointer Date. Slightly thinner.

If I’m honest my eyes have trouble reading the (Spanish) Day/Month apertures 🔍🔍🔍

35mm is great size. And it's easier to fit all those details on a bigger watch, like 39 or 40, but your 35mm watch looks clean and not cluttered.)

I have 35-36mm Orient with an Italian date wheel, which is slightly wider than an hour hand and I don't even bother setting it.) It comes with a quickset date with a separate button (and it's so sexy, imo), but no quickset for the day, and I can't read Italian anyway)

Yes if Patek can make the dials/designs work on their Perpetual Calendars of a similar size, then there’s no reason others can’t too.

Did you buy your Orient from an Italian seller? Mine made me learn the days of the week in Spanish - so I’m going to add ‘general knowledge’ to the reasons for acquiring this watch 😂.

It’s only the OCD part of me that needs to know that the day and month are correct - you’re right it’s less hassle to alter them. I was told by the watchmaker to make sure I didn’t ‘half-press’ the pushers when changing the day/month/moonphase/date otherwise there could be ‘problems’….🫣. Just have to be super careful with it

Timeless elegance!

Your patience paid off.

That strap is paired so well with the hour markers.

Nah, I've bought it from a local flea market) I have 0 idea how this watch ended up here, but it is what it is)

My OCD made me set up watch correctly for the first time, but going through 7 days with a very, and I mean, very (it's a bit less than a 1mm) thin and small crown isn't ideal lol)

Pic, please?

It’s great when you have a find like that! The internet has taken a little of that romance away.

Absolute sudden find, come across it at absolute random while mindlessly scrolling through marketplace. Our local flea market sellers are usually doubling their lots on marketplaces, so as soon as I've seen it I grab it. Met a seller couple hours later and here I am.

Thanks for the pics! Looks cool! Looks like a cross between a DJ and Polerouter!

You were right not to sit on it!

Thanks! This is exactly what I thought - a DJ + Polerouter) And also I'm a huge fan of tonneau cases, so it was an absolute no brainer)

Bracelet is an aftermarket cheap trash, to be fair, but I liked the look of it so much, so I've decided to keep it)

I was also thinking that it gonna take some time for me to get used to the size, because the smallest round watch I had before was a 37mm, but the second I've put it on a wrist i was like "okay, now THIS is perfect") 36mm on a bracelet is like a perfect match for a 6.5inch wrist)

I’m afraid I can’t offer any helpful suggestions (outside of the main boutiques in Geneva).
