Do you like that Bonklip bracelet? I've wondered how they'd feel on wrist.

I maybe have seen you comment on one of my posts about this before. Yeah I’m a big fan of it, both the style itself and the cleanliness of the 4512’s dial.

I looked at a lot of California dial watches before I eventually decided to pull the trigger on this one. The main reason i didn’t pursue one was because this one’s retail price and scarce secondary market listings made me give up hope a little. The closest thing i found to this is the San Martin knockoff (SN020B), which I enjoy for many reasons that I will elaborate on in different post. Aside from potential substitutes such as the Baltany Bubbleback or either of the california dial Timex Marlins, you could build a mod of it using the NMK931 case and a Tandorio California dial, etc.. But I finally pulled the trigger on an RH Cali 4512. because I came to the conclusion that I would just be filling the lack of what i really wanted with subtitutes.

What has kept you from getting one?

I do. I don’t think the bracelet itself is worth what Serica charges for it tho. It’s fine, but not $100 good. Maybe there is something production-related that I’m not aware of that makes Serica’s, Praesidus’s, and Forstner’s at least makes the price it make sense 🤷. Serica’s tapes down by 2 mm immediately, which I don’t like but i don’t strongly dislike. It’s the only one I’ve seen that does that tho.

Bonklips are very comfortable. If i had to compare them to a feeling, they’re like those comfortable, light sweaters you might wear when it’s windy during spring. If you want a Bonklip, I have seen much more affordable ones under “Alpine watch bracelet” on AliExpress or eBay be recommended.

Everytime I almost do it something else pops up. I was ready to order and a vintage Seiko I was looking for came up. Before that I went to the wind up watch show and bought 2 micros. I’m trying to plan my year a bit better this year and wanted to add a field watch and your insight helps. Thanks for sharing! (I still don’t know what to do but I like thinking about it 🤷‍♂️😂)

The Serica has been on my ‘I’d like one of those’ list for quite some time. I like the overall design of the watch but prefer the commando dial.

Personally, I prefer the “WMB” dial over the Commando dial. It’s kinda hard to explain why, but i like that it looks cleaner with the complete railroad track in a way that fits with the bit of elegance the bezel’s polished edge brings to the tool-watch case. If the California dial had the WMB’s railroad track, the California would look dang-near perfect to me 😍.

Love the broad arrow hands. The case is also a sensible size!

I have the St. Martin version my wife got me this a couple of birthdays ago.

If I was going to get a California dial it would have to be the Nomos Club Campus

I’d go for the hot pink one, if I was in the financial situation to choose. But if I comfortably had the money, i know exactly what other California dial watch I’d get: a California dial Tudor Prince Date

Actually, this is a copy of a Unimatic. SM’s copy is in an Explorer case. Yours is still neat, tho I don think I would like the straight lugs very much.

What is a responsible purchase?

Not spending more than your available spending money for the month and just saving for it like a smarter person.

I should have explored that some for this purchase, but I generally want stay away from that unless it’s a major purchase because I think I would find it too tempting.

I just picked up mine a few days ago. It was also not really a responsible purchase. But I love it nonetheless. The California dial is awesome. The clean black and those dial hands look really unique. The finish is great and the bonk lip is nice. I have no complaints other than I probably shouldn’t have bought it but the deal was too good to pass up.

Super comfirtable, very adjustable!

Darn I just went on their website and the price is really not too bad. I seriously wanted to order one. Had it in my cart actually then I watched a review stating that it's under 38mm. 39 I can live with but I don't think I could do a 37.7. Stunning piece though, I really like serica.

I’d say that even on my 16 & ¼ cm wrist, it enjoys its real estate when it comes to length.
