Does anyone else feel that responses to the left-handed GMT Master 2 were weird?

Like… god forbid left-handed people get a watch for them—or a nice one like a Rolex once every 40 or 20 years, right? I have even seen major watch media outlets on YouTube say that Rolex should discontinue and keep it a short run just to preserve its “collectibility”. Fratello had a video with some big-time overthinking. The host called the 120720VTNR a “psychological experiment”. And saying that the brain dislikes it because it looks “wrong”, which is partly true but more likely it’s just an unusualness that is rare.

For his speculation about why the GMTM2 was chosen, i think it’s a combination of not throwing something unusual in front of the Muggle, who’s just going to buy a Submariner and call it a day, as well as it being that the GMTM2 is meant to be a watch that it more often manipulated than most of thier other lines.

The person then goes from having a thankfully neutral view to an actively hostile one. It is a “quirky mistake”; “You don’t mess with the Mona Lisa of watches. You leave that well alone.”; “[T]his is not a watch. It is an experiment. And i beg Rolex to end this experiment, right now.”; “Ok, Rolex, you’ve made your point […] Now please stop making silly reproductions of it, and focus on what you’ve done before”. …seriously? Children have a more level-headed attitude to unusual things than this.

To quote a sane user on Reddit, this hostile attitude is “some impressively archaic bigotry”.

Some people don't like different.

I'd wear it. Love destro, LHD, or whatever the manufacturer wants to fall placing the crown on the left.

·

That’s really how I feel about most watch related opinions. It doesn’t stop me from having them though 🤷🤣

·

A lot of Rolex and Tudor customers just don't like having their cheese moved too far away. Sometime I feel they would just be more pleased if these brands never changed anything with their watches.

I always thought that GMT Master ii gave me sloth vibes from the Goonies.

There's rants about the 36mm watches coming out.

People get their own hopes up for a particular flavor, and when it's not delivered, it's always someone else's fault that they duped themselves.

Never mind that their preferred flavor is still available, but feelings must be expressed worldwide!

Did you take acid?

Nope just think the left sided cyclops looks like it wants to slide off the crystal like this guys face

I’m left handed but wear my watch on the left as normal (whatever your normal is?) If I could get it and more realistically afford it I’d love the GMT .People rant on about Rolex being boring and unchanging blah blah and as soon as something remotely left field appears they go into meltdown…most strange. …48mm yellow plastic quartz submariner please.

Wearing a watch on your right wrist is wrong and unnatural. Encouraging it shouldn't be allowed! 😜

I want them to do a that emoji puzzle dial DD to a GMTM2 just so I can laugh at the squirmy watch media outlets.

I don’t read Fratello or the Dink but if I have refer to them for some reason, I entirely dismiss their content and opinion to discover what factual information I’m looking for.

Following this path should end your angst going forward.

Telling people they are wrong isn't hostile, it's helping them. Right wrist = wrong! Glad we cleared all that up. 🙄

Yeah that Fratello article is odd. Weirdly distorted sense of reality that man has. Also. Wearing a "regular" watch on the right wrist looks more "wrong" to me. Not that there's anything wrong with it but I am happy for left handed people who can now get a watch that might appeal to them more.

I watched a video. Didn’t know there was an associated article or vice versa. Yeah it’s wack. Like…it’s just a watch

@TheHoroSexual , what do you think? I find all the whining about the lefty GMT to be a bit childish. And to justify it, dealers will say that they want it gone in the name of collectability and “value”. I hope Rolex keep it around for at least a few more years just to stick it to all of them and to let left handed people have a fine watch that is made for them.

Just now thought to ask you
