There's never a good excuse for rushing

My bronze and Bordeaux Yema Superman is the perfect example of why rushing and buying a watch is not a good idea, or why procrastination is a perfectly valid buying strategy when dealing with watches.

Image

It took me close to a year to decide to get it, and during this year I gave to myself one reason after another why I should not do it. The reasons spanned the whole spectrum of logic, starting with the reasonable argument that I already own another Superman, and ending with me balking at the need to replace the NATO strap with something a bit less fugly.

This resulted in an endless cycle of visits to Yema's online shop, each one ending with me deciding that this is a decision that can be postponed to a a later date. By the end of the year I got so fed up that I bought it just to spite myself.

Image

The long decision period had the benefit of lowering my expectations. I was thinking that there must be something wrong with this watch that stopped me from making an impulse buy.

It also gave me the time to place an order with Erika's Originals for a strap, and here I have to commend them again. The owner contacted me to clarify some details about my order because she wanted to be sure I was not making a huge mistake (which I did because I'm an idiot).

Image

Both orders arrived at roughly the same time which gave me the opportunity to swap the annoying NATO strap right out of the box.

When I put it on for the first time it was with a bit of fear that I will spot immediately what caused me to drag my heels for so long. But it didn't happen and in fact each time I wear it I realize two things. The first is that I'll never even consider a BB58 as long as I have this Yema in my collection.

The second is that Erika's Originals straps are the bomb.

So here is my advise, maybe the next time that you find yourself sitting on the fence it's just because something tells you that you will enjoy it better if you are patient.

Great looking watch and strap.

·

I'll try my best to follow your advice, but man, this watch-buying addiction is so hard to fight oftentimes

Or a depleted bank account, 😉🤣

Then I must do it more often because I'm still an idiot.

It's not really an addiction because I can stop it whenever I want, really, I swear that's true.

There's a bit of truth in that because I justified my purchase through the discount given in the online shop. But if I'm being honest with myself what really pushed me to get it was that I became fed up with sitting on the fence for so long.

I get that. Make a decision just to be on one side of it or the other (buying it was really the only way to do that) & deal with the fallout - good or bad - when it happens. Glad it worked out this way for you.

My kids would call that a “sick burn” 🤣

I’m not understanding the lesson here. You kept delaying only to buy it anyway and you love it now, correct? So if you had bought it earlier you would’ve enjoyed it for a longer period…

I think I love the idea of acquiring watches as much as I love the watches themselves. It turned into a form of retail therapy over the last couple of years and I need to really nailed down what it is I want long term versus what I can acquire immediately.

Maybe there is no lesson here for you to learn, we are all different after all.

I’m really confused lol. It’s a great watch, I’m just not getting what you are trying to teach us here. Enjoy the watch in good health :)!

In reality though, it's a self-own.

Are you, though? 😏

·

Congratulations on the watch.

I love the design and I like the strap too. Great pictures 🤩

I’m considering the BB down the line but I’ll check out the Yema as well

I have no experience with Yema beyond reading about them and some videos on YouTube about the robust timepieces, this model is appealing. Oddly the name conjures up for me Nietzsche and not the DC comic book character. I hope that I am wrong but you are going to have to scratch the Tudor BB58 itch eventually. We all have seemingly not rational objects of desire: for me it is a ceramic Omega PO GMT watch that my last few watch purchases cannot chase away. With the price increases set in place by Omega, it becomes less and less sensible relative to other watches that interests me also.

Well, the truth is that I don't have any BB58 itch that needs scratching. Initially what appealed to me was the retro look and dimensions but after seeing it in person I decided to buy an SPB147 instead, which may also be one of the reasons why I delayed so long with the bronze Yema.

Anyway, the BB58 is a no go for me. It didn't appeal to me in person and I also found its hands to be even fuglier than I thought.

Ah....so you let others bear the brunt of 'French service' first and reaped the fruits of their labour. I commend your big brain move. 🍻😛

Of course, I bought the BB58 to secure a better deal with a GRAND SEIKO watch that my ad could not allow a decent discount on due to increased demand. My younger daughter accepted the Tudor but a few years but has since returned it to me, I intend to wear it occasionally, it is ok, obviously over hyped by content producers on YouTube etcetera.

cheers,

Jerry

I posted in the past about my experience with Yema service. Bottom line: no complaints and when I look at horror stories from other users, stories that span from waiting months to get a watch back from service or getting it in a worse condition than it was sent, then I must say that Yema are excellent by comparison.

I know, I'm just teasing your championing of Yema. Now go and get yourself a Yema brand ambassadorship. 😛

I have been sitting on the fence for a particular piece in mind. I hope if I ever decide to finally dive in, I end up exactly like your own experience. 😊

That strap is awesome!

That strap is awesome!

Yes. Erika's straps are the best. I also have an NDC strap for my Flightmaster but it's not as good as the one I got from Erika.

·

Reminds me more of 79250BA than the bronze bb58. Seiko is a nice pick up.

·

I keep putting off procrastination.

·

I, on the other hand, purchased my Yema completely unplanned and without conducting any prior research. I simply seized the opportunity that was presented to me. Nevertheless, I have no regrets about it! 😄

Great post Claude! I think that your experience in Watch collecting comes in time and errors at the ends of day. It really sucks when you make mistakes when buying but at the end of the day you end up picking u on those mistakes and apply it for the future moving forward.
