The world is time enough

I have to admit that fitting the merlot red oiled leather strap from Vario on this World Timer was one of my better decisions for the year.

The AE1200 suffer from being, well - cheap, and was therefore paired with one of the standard synthetic polymer straps that Casio is so found of.

I don't like these plastic straps. I never did and Casio can call the material by whatever marketing mumbo jumbo term they want, but it still feels, look and smells like plastic. There are some who claim that they are comfortable to wear and easy on the wrist but I'm not among those blessed by Casio because I always found myself itching and scratching my wrist.

But this oiled leather strap is great. I was a bit apprehensive because my AE1200 was moded with an SKKMOD kit and therefore the case isn't original, but I found that the strap is a perfect fit. So get your own from Vario before they wise up and jack up the prices.

It also complement nicely the 80's look of the AE1200, which BTW was launched in 2012 so it's very much a 21st century model.

I bought my AE1200 and moded it for the look, and in truth I don't care much about its world time functions, however wearing it on the Vario strap is a completely different experience which is worth the extra expense (IMO of course).

That looks great. I have a Royale as well but not sure if it’s worth the investment to spend more on the strap than the watch.

Looks fantastic.

Great looking watch!

It'd look even better if you did the full bronze mod (with your leather strap) that @ZenWatchGuy shared a couple of days ago. 😜

I wholeheartedly agree. That mod has become one of my favorite watches.

IMO you are looking at it the wrong way.

I thought about it and your way means that I have to treat the AE1200 as a disposable commodity and in this case you are right because it makes zero sense spending money on a disposable.

But what if I stop looking at it as a disposable? With the SKXMOD and the Vario strap it's a package worth about 150-200US$ depending on freight charges, VAT and custom. Is it a fair price for watch with a hardened coated case, a sapphire crystal, a unique neo-retro 80's look and a great strap? For me hell yes! YMMV of course.

Maybe, but then I would not get the neo-retro black and gold 80's look that I wanted.

Just kidding. Your watch and strap look great as they are.

All good, you got a good watch there.

To be fair, the Vario strap costs only $28 and it's very good quality for that price. It's not like attaching a $200 Delugs strap to a $30 Casio.

You've put together a great looking color combo with this! I love it. Highly accurate watch, 10 year battery, unique, beautiful colors, etc. I have two AE1200s on the black rubber strap I wear for hikes, mountain biking, sports etc and one on the metal strap for an occasional grab and go work watch and travel watch if I don't want to risk a mechanical. I love these things. Maybe now I need a brown strap to wear with Jean's this fall!!

You nailed it with your choise of strap. Perfect combo👌

On a sidenote I’m not big on digital watches. I have the the ”mandatory” 5610 which I really like. Classic look and perfect size for me. But I feel the Worldtimer draws me in for a 2nd one.

The AE1200 with its original plastic case and strap feels cheap and disposable. It's perfectly fine as an everyday watch that you don't mind losing after waking up from a pub crawling night, but it's not something that you would lust after.

But once moded with an SKXMOD case and fitted to a good strap it become something quite different. If you ever handled a full metal GWM-B5000 you know that it feels like a premium watch and this is the same feeling I get now from my AE1200.

Me too I love it now!!!!
