I was wrong and I made a mistake

If it really takes a strong man to admit that he was wrong, then I might be a step closer to be redeemed and bask in the light.

I was wrong about the GWM-B5000. I've been dismissing the full metal G-Shock for years because I could not see the point in a variant that was (a) less shock resistant, (b) more expensive, and (c) heavier.

For me a good G-Shock had to be cost effective (aka cheap), and also light on the wrist. With these criteria in mind I could not justify getting the GWM-B5000 which is the exact opposite of everything I thought I loved about the plastic squares.

I bought it on a whim because there was a good deal. I thought I'll give it a try, and the worst that could happen is that I'll throw it in a drawer and forget it after deciding it's not really for me. It's just money after all, so why should I care so much?

And then it happened and I finally "got it". Handling a GWM-B5000 was a totally different experience from what I expected: It felt like a premium watch due to its solid feel and weight. I'm all for lightness and this is why I love titanium, but looking at the metallic wonder made me understand why some of us don't find the lightness of titanium watches very appealing.

It may look like a classic square but it sure doesn't feel like one. I thought that I will have to change the bracelet because I'm not much into bracelets, but this one works for me.

Of course, with it's shinny metal case and fine brushing it may not be the best choice for me to wear in the field, but my soldiering days are over and this one will never have to face real field conditions

On the other hand, there are days when I feel like a want to wear something substantial on my wrist and still enjoy the G-Shock experience of simplicity and functional design, and that looks like this is what I'm going to do today.

I was wrong, the GWM-B5000 is a great G-Shock.

I e always loved the look of these watches, it’s the price I can’t get past.

It's a cool-looking watch that looks good on your wrist, the finishing also looks pretty good for a Casio

In my experience the finish on Casio watches is very good, in the case of the GWM-B5000 Casio could either sharpen the lines or keep the softer contours of the plastic squares. They decided in favor of the later and I think they were right in this case. Improving the definition would have resulted in a more upscale looking watch, but then it would not look like a true square anymore.

That was one of the reasons why I was dismissive for so long.

Yes it is a great G-SHOCK and I bought one. However, unlike it’s resin brothers it’s not a watch I would be happy to bash around, which kind of defeats the purpose of a G-SHOCK, doesn’t it?

The 500£/$/€ ones I can live with. The 5,000£/$/€ ones blow my mind.

This is exactly what point (a) was all about.

But I'm also looking at it a bit differently, not as a replacement for my M5610 or DW5600, but as a premium Casio and in this role it's simply brilliant.

I have one and adore it, though I prefer to wear mechanical watches on the regular.

One major thing I noticed is that the display on the full metal square is so much better than on its resin cousins. Much more crisp and legible from any angle.

I bought a GMW-B5000TVB-1ER recently for about 30% off. I still feel like a muppet spending close to 1k on a digital watch. No one at all notices it like one of my mechanical watches. I'm in two minds still wether or not to keep it.

Wow! I've been considering a full-metal G-Shock. I fear that one might be too blingy for me, though, but I'd have to try it in person. I really like the matte black version and the gunmetal CasiOak, too. We'll see what the future brings, I've never paid that much for a watch.

It is indeed. I love mine from the first minute of wearing. Good Choice!
