I've got 'em all over the place. Windowsill, table, cabinet, in a drawer, etc
I 3d print my watch stands. My active rotation watch are next to my desk. The others are on my book shelf.
One display box on my desk. One box hidden in a drawer leaving one or two loose watches for the nightstand (whatever I'm wearing daily). Display boxes all over the house sounds great (unless you are trying to make sure your wife doesn't realize how big a watch problem you might have).
My night stand,some others are in a watch box in another bedroom the rest in the safe
