My quest continues - Glashutte

This is the best part of watch collecting. The hunt! The worst part being servicing watches and paying those exorbitante service invoices.

And if you know me by now, you know I wont be showing something standard. So my next target is this Glashutte Original Senator Navigator Worldview (phew, that's a long name!)

I have approached this watch before but it looks like the situation was never correct. It has 3 things going for it as far as I am concerned: 1. It's a Glashutte Original - I have been wanting to add one to my collection but for some bizarre reason, I dont like their regular watches. Most of the stuff that I'm drawn to are inaccessible for me. 2. I have always wanted a worldtimer (but not the kind with the earth map depiction that PP, Chopard, etc make but rather more quiet type with just the city names). 3. It's a pilot and I love me some pilots.

What do you all think about this watch?

Nice! old school without a map just city names reminds me of a few Worldtimers that I owned ages ago. I am tempted by GO also but thinking of the Moonphase or even the perpetual depending on my extra dollars this year, my hovel might need some expensive roofing and flashing. Is this WT in the current GO catalogue?

Looks quite tactical, perfect as a travel field watch

Yeah, I seem to enjoy old school, retro vibe watches. I am discovering this by the types of watches that I am attracted to. I hate the maps. They feel either blurry or too gimmicky to me.

There were days when I really drooled over Perp. calendars but I am long over that phase (unless it's VC Twin Beat). Ever since I bought my first no date watch (thank you Zenith Pilot Tupe XX), I have discovered the blessing of not worrying about the correctness of the date. Even a thought of keeping the PC correct gives me goosebumps these days. And I dont even want to know what will happen to me if I were to accidentally pass the correct date like on some of those IWCs LOL

Currently they dont carry this model. I saw online some retailers like hodinkee mentioning 2021 dated papers for sale. so they must have axed the model around late teens.

GO moonphase and PC are 2 different leagues though. Just saying)

Exactly my thought. Perfect travel watch. Quite rugged, good lume for airplanes darkness legibility, and should be easy to adjust. From my other travel suitable GMTs, the Ulysse Quadrato is quire a dressy piece (not really for those airport situations, etc), JLC hometime is too complicated to adjust on the fly. Zenith Pilot GMT is just too darn large to be comfortably worn during travel itself - gets in the way when you're having to undress for security, handle luggage, in planes/trains, etc (ALTHOUGH OTHERWISE IT IS ONE OF MY FAV TIMEPIECES). I am thinking this one is quite utilitarian, with good lume, and in a rugged calf strap. If it had a higher water resistance, it could even sub as a summer vacation watch. But at the end of the day my Ulysse Nardin diver on a rubber strap has that chore covered.

I htink that flieger followed this flieger. That one is also a senator navigator, isnt it?

How many mm is its diameter? See thru case back?

I really like GO. I own the Senator Moonphase and would love to add another one to the collection. But if I’m being really honest, for a worldtimer without the world map in that watch bracket I’d definitely go for the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic, ref 169.1.92:

Yeah, they usually don't put too much water resistance on a field watch, so it's not a necessity (but still nice to have)

It is the Senator Navigator. Mine doesn’t have an exhibition case back. It’s at the bank at the moment. But it’s rather large, 44mm I think.

Master Geographic is not in that bracket. It's much higher. Also, JLC MG used to be my dream watch before they ruined the design. Gen 2 is flat as a pancake, gen 3 a little better but still doesnt rise to the beauty of the original version. MG Compressor on the other hand is an interesting piece and more rugged than a delicate, suit and tie suitable MG. The problem is that both Gen 1 MG and MG Compressor are give or take 20 year old models and I dont want such an old watch.

I’d def go for gen 1 as well, by far the best looking imo. I wear watches which are 80 or 90 years old, so would have no qualms about buying/wearing a 20 or 30 year old JLC MG :) They go for around 6 - 7k, so I’d say that is second hand GO watch bracket.

I love mine. I have a 7 3/4 inch wrist. My Seamaster diver 300’s at 42 mm are perfect feel for me. The GO flieger is bigger, and does have a lot of presence because there is no bezel like the SMP’s. But it’s still very comfortable, and I’m still very happy with it. Hope that helps.

I was ready to pull the trigger on the Pandemonium, on the left, and I rather innocently looked at that nice picture of the factory in the small German town.

Oh, the PanoMatic Lunar is positively fantastic! I’m thrilled with it!

First I gotta convert 7 and 3/4 to human dimensions lol Fraction inches and F temp is something I refuse to memorize. I go by feel and have a sense you have massive wrists LOL In all seriousness though, I remember seeing this watch only once in my live at the 57th Street Time Machine Torneau store in NYC in the pre-owned section. As that store usually practiced, their pre-owned section was basically like the new item prices and I didn't buy the watch. I remember it having a distinctly toolish feel and look, which I didn't appreciate at the time. But sizewise I just don't remember how it fit on my wrist. The problem is, I can barely find any reviews of this watch. Even Tim M. doesn't have a single review online or on youtube. So strange!

No. Not my cup of tea. I want something fresh. I always buy fresh - brand new or almost new. And I don't subscribe to that silly notion that scratches add character to the watch. They bother me every time I see them. Polishing isn't for me as well because I worry about overpolishing. I know, I am messed up in the head but that's how I roll.

For 6-7K I can easily get a Bvlgari worldtimer brand spanking new with warranty and everything. This one just happens to be on a good deal. Just like that Ulysse Nardin with enamel dial I posted a couple of days ago. I'm also looking to buy an apartment in Italy. So don't want to go overboard with watch spending.

·

I think you’re spot on with this watch. It’s got the stark, deep contrast of a flieger with those superb dart hands (Is that the name?) and a clear, pleasing worldtimer complication; what else can I say?

Buy it! Now, if you can! 👌

Yeah, it’s a bit more obscure. I got the Navigator as my first GO because I saw it at Crown and Caliber at a good price. I’ve seen them for even less, and if I was in the market I’d buy a second with the pano date like you are looking at.

Yes, it has a ‘tool feel’. My wrist size is above average but not huge. My preference is a 42mm, with a 40-44mm range depending on dial presence and lug to lug. I do prefer slightly larger watches, but 44 is the largest I’d go generally. Do you have a SMP diver 300? If you’re comfortable with that I’d think you can be comfortable with this also. What the largest dial in your collection?

Nah. For a pure flieger you're correct to have a date-less watch. I came across a current GO Flieger (type A) model that has a date window and it honestly looked strange. I know IWC Mark series have dates but overall I think dates don't belong on such historic pieces.

My Zenith Type XX is 48 mm but with short curved lugs (it feels a lot smaller than IWC Big Pilot at 46 mm), Zenith tipo cp-2 is 43 mm and Defy 21 is 44. I am not sure dial sizes though. Like you I prefer larger watches (especially pilots) but they do bang around during daily wear. My Laco flieger at 42 mm is less troublesome in that respect. I have tried a 43 mm IWC Pilot Chrono and it felt OK just like a Blancpain 50 fathoms (at 45 mm). So it all depends on the case config. I don't own any Omegas.

I think sword hands.

I agree. The only reason I didn't buy it before is because I rarely ever see it anywhere. It's a rather rare watch. Panos, Sea Qs, and 60s and 70s series are on all social media and chrono24 but this one is their "black sheep."

Surprised by the price (in a good way) 😁

·

It definitely has those three great qualities going for it. I’ve never quite gotten the appeal of a world timer and have considered one of the less expensive ones to see what ai think

·

GO is one of my favourite brands. I have the seventies panorama date. I have also been looking at works timers and I love this one you have shown. This one looks decent for a very good price on chrono24
