Chanel vs Chronoswiss

So a certain youtuber has been parading lately his recent acquisition - Chanel Monsieur with jumping hours and retrograde minutes. I myself have also been eyeing a retrograde but from Bvlgari (for obvious reasons). Then I came across a Chronoswsiss Delphi and that got me thinking...

They have identical complications. Albeit Chronoswiss also offers an interesting guilloche... But Chanel has a bombastic movement. Even though to me personally, Chronoswiss has earned their horological chops the right way while Chanel has skipped to the front of the line, pricewise Chanel is several times more expensive. So which one has more mojo?

Yes Chronoswiss is not exactly a Breguet, we understand that, but Mr. Lang has been a stalwart in the fight against the quartz crisis and has stuck to traditional watchmaking through the ups and downs of the watchmaking industry. Chanel is a conglomerate brand that's acquired watchmaking capabilities through acquisition moves. And truth be told, they are not exactly associated with men in general. They have the nerve to offer men's watches at 30k price point but otherwise are a 100% female brand that doesn't even make men's apparel...

So imagine this: You show up in a Chanel watch to a boyz meet-up on a Sunday afternoon at a country club or to a football game. Then imagine the same thing with the Chroniswiss. With the Cronoswiss you may be asked what you're wearing and can relate a story... The brand name certainly wont raise eyebrows in the context of a watch. Now picture Chanel conversation LOL You'll be laughed out of town by the cool kids before you even get to take off the watch to show the movement and utter Romain Gothier's name. I just cant get this image out of my head - you're standing there curbside all spitted and peed on, with the watch in your hand, tears rolling down your face, crying "but it's got a Romaine Gothier movement 😭😭" Except, the cool boys and their hot girls have already sped off in their top-down convertibles.

Let me hear your thoughts ))

I think the Chanel looks better, but you wouldn’t catch me wearing that either. The Bvlgari Octo Mono retrograde is much more unique and seeing as you seem to have an affinity for the brand, I would go that route if I were you.

In rose gold here (https://www.chrono24.com/chronoswiss/chronoswiss-delphis--id29939807.htm) it looks much better than in the pic I posted above. Something about that flat dial on the channel cheapens it for me. But I don't argue tastes. To each their own. Bvlgari looks more techno for sure. But they are chunkier too. Having said that, they have several versions with 2 or 2+ retrograde, different colors-metal combinations and overall more stuff to choose from. I just imagined that rose gold coin-shaped case with guilloche on a suit and French cuff and thought it was super elegant

You‘re right, that looks way better than in the picture above. Very hard to capture the guilloché texture on a frontal view photo, I guess. Looks very classy with the coin edge bezel 👌🏼 I suppose then the question is only whether you want something elegant and classy or something more avant-garde

I actually have an offer pending on something completely different. But if that doesn't go through I am seriously thinking about this style of a watch. It does bother me that thr Cronoswiss would be 20+ years old but I will cross that bridge if and when I get there. For the time being, the debate in this post is between these 2 models)

With so many watch brands out there I never thought Chanel was The Chanel. I was pronouncing it ‘Channel’ until I finished your post…lol

I think Cronoseiss too is the way to go, it has the history and story and like you said is cheaper. Plus if you ever need warranty or service they would more be able to help you rather then a fashion conglomerate that bought a watch company.

I would say for a dress watch the age of the watch is not really a huge concern. I‘m curious to see what you‘ll get

I think Chanel could also help because they bought a stake in FPJ, another indy that I can't think of right now and some movement maker. It's just that for me, I can never drink a soft drink made by a British Petroleum or use a home improvement tools set made by Tampax. You know what I mean?

I have a self imposed dollar limit on the watches that I can realistically own generally south of 20k cad so Chanel timepieces are mostly above my comfort zone. I have never been able to properly judge the hot and cool qualities of the individuals that I fraternize with but I do favour an open mind.

I also try to keep a per watch budget under control and generally prefer to find a deal where I can generate value in this valueless hobby. When a watch costs as much as a small apartment in South Italy, I prefer the apartment 😉 The quarterback of your highschool football team, the prom king and queen, that guy towards which all the gals gravitate, the dude that always looks well put together, has perfect hair, Hollywood smile and perfectly tanned skin also qualify. Think Wei Koh vs Tim Mosso and you'll get the idea ;)

lol! Tim Mosso has a remarkable memory, might be photographic. Wei Koh is impressive but imo tries too hard to be genuinely cool. I attended a top notch public high school where the star jocks and brainiacs were equally celebrated. A guy who got kicked out in grade 9 started a fast food counter named Manchu Wok, famously nicknamed 2x4(2ft tall, 4ftwide) by me sold it to some giant company in the States years ago married a Hong Kong actor. Years ago ran into Mr 2x4 downtown walking with his wife and assistants, he stopped offered me $100 usd tip for still looking good. I can take a hit refused the gratuity. Have a great day!

Chronoswiss all day every day ...

·

Even they are identical in arangement, they are not in the same style, Chronoswiss is classic and Chanel is more modern industrialist. So what your style depends on which watch, but never go wrong with classic in my opinion.

Time grapher reading on that watch that I was trying to buy came dismal ( I told the selle and they keep insisting that tje watch works perfect ( So I think I'm either dealing with a moron or a dishonest seller. Either way, I think I am going to have to look elsewhere.
