Why Amazfit Neo never got to be the modern classic in comparison to Casio world time?

Casio World Time (AE1200WH-1A) gets to be the main star of youtube videos, websites reviews and a must have watch in almost any collection.

While there is also Amazfit Neo, a watch that can do everything Casio World Time can and much more. A combination of the 90s digital watch with the modern fitness band with a battery that can last 20+ days without a recharge (while working at all times).

Today people are making hundreds of mods for Casio World Time while Amazfit Neo never got to be the legend their makers thought it would be. I bet they thought they cant miss the beat by connecting the digital fans with modern times. The price is similar, the size is similar, the buttons idea is similar and you get so much more with Neo. How do i know something went wrong? I dont see different digital watches from the same brand which means the numbers were not there. People would rather buy F91W than the superior product.

Maybe I was their niche buyer. A person who needs the modern sport watch but also who can appreciate the beauty of the simple digital watch without the modern smartwatch touchscreens.

Whats your take on the topic? Have you tried Neo? Why this watch never became the youtube star as Casio counterpart ?

This is why I love WC. This is eye opening as I have the Royale and never even looked at the Neo. This might be a good one for my kids though.

Amazfit doesn't trip off the tongue, the same way Casio does 😜🤒

Are you really asking or is this a rhetorical question?

Because the answer is pretty obvious.

It's still fitness tracker, not really watch... It's not complete, in itself, but needs Bluetooth to fully realize its capabilities (albeit higher capacity than a regular watch).

Imagine if you buy a device, fall into a coma for 5 years, wake up, and start using that device. A Casio (or Rolex or Patek or whatever) would immediately be usable, fully. A fitness tracker would not. At minimum, you need a phone with an OS capable of talking to it. Its battery probably degrades, and you probably can't replace that. Etc.

Now, to be fair, when they work, a tracker has more features. But yeah, these extra features would stop working after a while, and you feel missing out. And so, it's not the same.

(last note: I know it's not fair, but pr and marketing and expectations matter; fitness trackers are expected to track fitness, and thus need to connect and whatnot; watches benefit from lower expectations. It's just the way the world works)

Im just saying that in a time when many people love to do sports with some kind of a fitness band (huawei, xaomi and similar ones) here you have the option to have it in the same package as Casio WorldTime. After you calibrate Neo with your phone you dont even need to connect it again if you want it to use just as a digital watch. And what you have here (even without bluetooth connection) is a much wider scope than Casio can deliver. Neo is better digital watch than WorldTime but also a solid fitness tracker as well. Only negative side is the need to recharge the battery once or twice per month.

The Neo does not have the level of aftermarket parts available that would enable you to customize the watch to your heart's content. The AE-1200 has that in spades.

Some people around here get upset when I bring it up, but a lot of the watch community falls into a form of "groupthink", and one or two brands suck all of the oxygen out of the room.

Casio has the lower end/digital space covered, there is no room to speak about anything else because "GoD tIeR!1!"...

Seiko sucks all of the oxygen out of the $300-1500 space. Post anything where a Seiko is an option, and you can pretty much guarantee that the Seiko will get all of the attention. With comments like "Gotta go with Seiko", "Can't go wrong with Seiko", or "The answer is always Seiko" being very common.

Mods wise, Amazfit Neo can have any 20mm band you would have at home. Also there are colorful plastic watch "protections" on aliexpress but those add more bulk to the watch. With more users there are more mods. To answer the bluetooth problem, you only need the bluetooth app to set the time of a watch automatically. You can do without it after it. Even if you would use the watch as a regular digital watch, you would have more ways to use it than any casio watch. Calories spent, steps per day, a stop watch, timezones of zillions cities (can be customised), heart rate. Obviously to use weather function, a sleep function and a fitness part, you would need to use it as a fitness tracker but it brings more value to the watch. Some people see the smart functions as a negative for no reason.
