Very understandable, but anyway, if I was facing the choice between those two, I would go for presage every single time! There's something about presage that speaks to me you know?

Yes totally understandit, if I had to put 550in a single watch I would go with cocktail time mojito, nothing matches pressages in sub500 range

For me it would depend a little on what I was looking for. The presage I think of more as a dressy watch and the 5 as more of an everyday piece.

you know, I've always said this, always buy something that you really want, that your heart yarns for it, not something you just buy for the sake of expanding a collection. If you must save a bit more to get it, just do it, it will be worth it!

For an everyday watch, seiko 5, special occasions and smarter look the presage

Then I say go for it as an alternative to the 5 if you’re wanting a Seiko maybe look at the Prospex line but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in either of those two.

Once you Seiko, you never go back. I’d suggest the Seiko5 Sports cause you’re going to end up wearing it everyday.

I agree with everyone that both are great options. Will you get both or only 1. If you go for both than your budget is around 1000 right. You can als go for 1:seiko pressage sharp edge series watch that gives you Sapphire glass and a automatic with 70 hour powerreserve.

Something I find is 4S/NH Seiko movements tend to run pretty well when they measure somewhere around +10 on the grapher, but it's also highly dependent on how you move while wearing it and the environment you're in. Heat, including body heat, slows things down a lot. The same watch on a bracelet might run 5-10sec slower than on a double-pass NATO strap because the strap insulates the watch from body heat.

They are two different watches, one sporty and the other one dressy, so you cover different styles with each.

As it is your first mechanical watch, I would start with just one, choosing the one you like the most or think you would use more. Use it, take some time before you buy the next one and you might find yourself thinking differently about what you want for your next watch.
