I’ve infected a co-worker

So today was my first day in the office/back to work since December 19th. As I was talking to my cubemates I noticed the guy sitting at the desk in front of me was sporting the pictured Hamilton Khaki Field. Apparently listening to me talk about watches way to often at work has given him the bug.

In September he took a trip to Disney with his wife and kids and came back with a skeletonized Fossil watch. He said he saw it at the airport for cheap and picked it up, as he is now much more aware of watches (because of me).  One day we were talking and he asked what I would recommend, that isn’t thousands of dollars, for a first mechanical watch. I said given his prior military experience and because he liked my Tudor Ranger that a field watch would be a good pickup for him. So for Christmas he added the Hamilton to his wish list.

His dad, retired Army saw it and immediately bought one for my coworker and one for himself. Why? When he was active military apparently he was issued 6 Hamilton field watches for him and his guys. He kept one for himself and gave the other 5 out. Apparently he wore it for about 15 years until it stopped working and eventually threw it away.  But later in life he regretted throwing it away and wished he would have kept it.

Seeing this watch on his son’s Christmas wishlist brought back some great memories, and because his son (my co-worker) was also an Army Ranger, he decided to buy a similar watch to the one he was issued many years ago for the both of them.  He said his dad was so excited to see the item on his list and to be able to buy one now for the both of them.

What a cool story!!  It totally made my day 🙂

If I need to turn people so I can talk about watches at work I WILL do it!

Really great story - especially about the father and his relationship to the watch. I am sure he was so happy to share his story with a similar watch with his son at Christmas. That said, you should be ashamed of transmitting this disease onto others 😂

It was bound to happen. I have unprotected conversations quite often.

Great story, unfortunate title. Scrolling through WC I saw this and thought I would be getting a VERY different article :)

Surely you brought another one to the team with this Hamilton tip and even helped his father to be happier and prouder! Mission completed Sir!

I’ve dragged 3-4 people down with me.
