*NWA* Mr. Jones Watch!

I'm visiting London and I was desperate to get my hands on a Mr. Jones Watch (MJW), Baltic, and Christopher Ward. I ticked off the first two, but the last was a bit too far for me this time (1h+ outside of London).

First, MJW. What a fun experience it was and highly recommend a physical visit over the online store because inventory is separate, you get a cool MJW tote bag, and they have some special watches (more on this below). It's located near Covent Garden in the Seven Dials. It's a very walkable neighborhood with lots of hip stores - Neals Yard, Japanese sock place, "Home slice" a pizza place, wine bars, etc. MJW feels perfect in this 'hood. Colorful entrance as you can see here.

Watches like the left and right with a colorful painting in the back. This, the tote bag illustration, and another wall drawing is done by a woman who assembles the watches! A very authentically cool company.

I ended up getting Ricochet (pinball robots) and I got my friend the number cruncher.

Image
Image

They come with a plain black leather strap, but you can swap straps for free on the spot with any of these. I opted for a nylon dark green strap, while my friend chose the mesh one (super comfortable by the way).

Image

For the Ricochet and a few others, they do different variations to test our colors and textures. They brought out like 10 different Ricochet ones for me to choose from AND it was slightly discounted. There's nothing wrong with them, just not the standard production model.

This is the standard one with a turquoise background, light green palm tree, blue lower pinball machine, and orange/pink robot.

Image

My robot is more sparkly. I preferred the darker green palm tree and a more distinctive upper turquoise background, but you can't customize it.

Image

Example I found online of a purple background. There is a pink one too!

Image

Heres the tote bag and a Seven Dials map/box sleeve that you only get if you physically visit.

Its a fun watch and am super happy to finally have one.

A quick word on Baltic for those that are still on the fence. Almost all WC'ers and YouTube watch folks praise Baltics with few criticisms. I wanted to desperately handle one to really see how they are.

The MR01 was disappointing in person, partly because it was so hyped. The finishing of the dial and numerals were nice, but the polished, plain bezel and the case overall were a bit flat. The watch was also super light and felt "like a toy" as my non-watch shopping buddy commented. The numerals were a bit oversized and while YouTubers describe it as modern, I felt it detracted from the dressiness and classiness of the watch.

I didn't handle the bicompax chronograph, but it looks nice.

The Aquascaphe was, on the other hand, not bad. It doesn't look as nicely finished as the blancpain bathyscaphe (obvious point, but worth stating because in pics the Aquascaphe looks very nice). It had more heft to it, the fauxtina wasn't as bad as I thought, the bezel clicks were sturdy, and crown pulling/time setting were clean (unlike my Lorier!).

The beads of rice bracelet was a bit cheap feeling, but you can't complain given the price. I think I'd keep it on the BOR bracelet. I'm still on the fence on the watch, but I respect Baltic for their designs.

Image

I also tried the new field watch, which is light hearted, but not sturdy feeling. A "dressy field watch" or a "fieldy dress watch" as the SA commented offhand.

Image

I asked if baltic would ever consider a watch with nicer movement and they said by year end or early next year a dress watch with a Swiss movement is coming! Stay tuned.

Thanks for reading and do you agree with my slightly critical take on Baltic? Are you going to come to London to visit MJW?

Great reportage 🤟🏼

Nice Ricochet watch! I got a chance to stop into the Mr Jones store during a trip to London this summer. It was a fun place to visit.

Did ya get one??

·

No, I actually dropped off my “Promise of Happiness” for some warranty work.

Image

They shipped it back to me soon after and it’s running great now.

I like their more serious artsy watches too! Nice one.

·

Get one! I was a fan before and I'm a massive champion now for the brand. I like companies that are real and authentic. The founder seems cool, they have a good niche, and the SA's were equally fun. Good price point too.

I was at the Harrods watch department and I was singing MJW praises. One of the SA's there wants one now!

·

Agree on the quartz part, but not all watches have this option apparently.

Hah, I gotta read your baltic posts/comments now.

·

Interesting watch! 👍

·

Thanks for the story 👍

I’d love to visit MJW! Alas Canada is too far. I wish more of the fun models had seconds hands 😕

Not a Baltic fan but haven’t seen any person either.

Cheers 🍻

Great Post.

Man shame I missed this past time i was in London!

·

omg! I am looking to get a Farer/ CW and a MJW! But was waiting to get them in London. It will make the purchase all that more special as compared to buying online. Love the vibes of the MJW- from the store to the packaging! Congrats on your NWA! Looks fab!

Interesting, I guess the silent baltic majority is starting to arise!!

The new ferris wheel one is kinda like a seconds hand??

Its a by appointment-only showroom in the Berkshires. I definitely need to head there the next time I'm in the UK. 🙂

Nice post!

Definitely to showrooms/boutiques that are a little hidden away from the others.

Nothing wrong with your critique of the MR-01 - it’s definitely a niche watch and certainly not for everyone. I totally agree with the ‘flatness’ of the high polished bezel - on the A Collected Man LE edition, they brushed this surface and it makes a world of difference imo.

Shame you could get to CW (its only an hour or so direct on the Elizabeth Line - although remember that Oyster Cards font extend that far!).

Its only a short walk from the station to the CW showroom. If you let them know beforehand that you’re visiting, they will try to accommodate most requests. I found them to be very patient, personable or helpful

Awesome story. I love my MJW.

It is! While it doesn't have the humour vibe I prefer, it's maybe the closest since that Ferris wheel looks fantastic.

·

I own “A perfectly useless Evening”. It’s a fun watch. But the dials do suck the battery faster than other quartz watches.

Awesome story. I love my MJW.

Thanks for posting the picture of this model! I have to say your photo makes the watch look much more appealing than the photo on the MJW website. Your photo really highlights how much depth the dial has. I have the Perfectly Wasted Day which I really like, I will now have to consider the UFO watch.

Thanks, I'll check them out next time. They are 15m drive from Christopher Ward! Even more reason to go and see both of them.

Interesting, the watch looks very different with a brushed bezel

I need to definitely make my way to CW next time and especially as now I know Farer is 15m away!

I was considering this one as well. I love how the pig becomes pink when the beam lands on it!

Yeah, it's a nice little treat once an hour if you catch it!
