You don’t have to cut them. Take off the strap and it will slide right off the end. Then you can slide it back on if you want. I’ve removed the extra keeper from a couple of straps.
When I order a custom strap, I specify a single wide keeper and it works out perfectly.

I don't I just push them together.
I figure that I may want the extra keep some day.
What madness is this?
Or maybe it’s just that with a 6.75inch wrist, I’m always on the last or penultimate hole on the strap, so I definitely need that keeper!
Long live the keeper!
Depends on the length and how much is left...

Haha. I’m with you. Much more likely to need to cut off the end of the strap itself and still need both keepers 😉

I know! Why are watches shipped with a standard strap sized for abnormally large wrists?! 😉
The second keeper is the manufacturer’s way of giving something back to the little guy!
Yes, sometimes. 👌
no. Why would I do that?
If there's no need for it, it's gone. Otherwise it'll just end up looking silly and alone half way up the strap.
No because on some watches I need both. I just keep them tight if I don't need the second one.

Usually that keeper can come off. Remove the strap and work it over the end of strap over the lug pin end.
With my 6.5” wrist I almost always need both. Those of the larger wristed persuasion might find them unnecessary
My fat wrists?! I ditch the second keeper immediately.
I would if it wasn’t needed. However, I’m pretty slender, so I usually need them!
On a strap I got recently I sewed the floating keeper into place because it kept moving around while I was wearing the watch, rendering it useless!
