Omega Speedmaster 3513.30.00

What's people's thoughts on the Omega Speedmasters that are not really "Speedmasters" but have some hints to the moonwatch design (bezel, case shape, pushers)?

This one (c.1999) actually has great dimensions, at 39mm, but the legibality is...questionable.

Speedmasters are category of omegas not a single watch I.e. the moon watch. They have tons of different seamasters, railmasters and planet oceans.

I’ve a vintage seamaster that’s nothing like a seamaster 300, I use it as a dress watch

Thanks @watchguystu for the clarification, didn't really see it that way, as I would think the name "Speedmaster" is synonymous with the moon watch 😄

It sort of is synonymous with it but there have been many iterations of every category

I have been eyeing this watch for a while. Seems like a good value.

·

I also think your speedy look ace

·

Very nice indeed. Not a Moonwatch, but an excellent sports chronograph 👍🏻👍🏻

·

I like my 3220.05.00. Its dimensions and domed sapphire make for great wrist presence. Plus the polished hands and indices make for easier low light viewing

Ummm why is a watch that Omega calls a Speedmaster not a Speedmaster? It says it right on the dial. Is it a moonwatch? No. Is it a Speedmaster? Yes. There isn’t just one Speedy. It’s a whole family watches.

·

There must be 20'000 different variations of the Speedmaster. Anything that makes one stand out is a bonus IMO.

There are 20k variations of the Moonwatch too 😂

Maybe only 19k but I know what you mean 😂

I enjoy my 3513.53.00 as well. Worn & Wound ran an article featuring JDM Speedys and dubbed it the “Speedmaster that least looks like a Speedmaster…” Exactly why I love it.

I’ve gone back and forth on these. At first glance they seem like great value, proportions that suit me a lot better than the Moonwatch, I just worry a bit about servicing should it ever happen. (Says the fella who has literally never had a watch serviced)

I really want a Michael Schumacher one in red though. I was a massive fan of his as a kid, if I’m buying a Speedmaster that isn’t the standard Moonwatch, then I don’t want a black dial.

Nice watch! Closest to this I’ve experienced is this is one.

I really like the indices on your watch!

Despite already having a hesalite Speedy the reduced pandas have been living in my head for quite some time as an addition of convenience. Great proportions for daily wear with the lazy ease of an automatic.

The servicing on Speedy Dates is about the same as the Speedy Pro. Different movements but both are integrated chronograph movements. Any average watchmaker can service them. I have a feeling what you’re thinking about is the Speedy Reduced which uses a standard 3 hand movement with a chronograph module stacked for chrono functions. These can be troublesome to service by 3rd party watchmakers. The Speedy Date uses the Valjoux 7750 which is possibly the most common chronograph movement in the world and easily serviced by anyone who knows their way around watches.

The only thing that bothers me is the 18mm lugs. Other then that they are awesome as long as you are not expecting them to be the Moon watch

Just curious… what bothers you about the 18mm lugs? I feel it would throw the look off if they used something else. The 18mm lug spacing is very proportional to the rest of the watch.

I feel like it's too slender and 20mm would fit better.

Fair enough. Even though the watch is listed as 38mm the bezel is actually only 35.5mm so it’s a rather small watch. Highly personal preference here, but I feel 19 or 20mm lugs would be too big for the watch and make the watch head look even smaller than it already is.

Hey, I'm glad you like the way it is. Maybe you are right, if it was actually 20mm maybe it would bother me, who knows - I usually have to see things to really make up my mind, just imagining doesn't really work for me

Yeah, that makes sense. It's hard to imagine without seeing it. My reference point is I have a 36.5mm watch with 20mm lugs and the strap feels so large compared to the rest of the watch. It feels disproportionate to the rest of the watch.

Tbh 18mm actually works really well on this, because the case is a bit chunky

·

They are still Speedmasters through and through.

Thanks, I also like the extra date windows on yours!

Not mine sadly, Somlo London had it in! I’m essentially living vicariously through half of London’s watches 😂

You’re 100% right. I could probably afford to listen a little less to rumours about the reduced! Not once have I actually had a number quoted to me, just comment sections.

The Valjoux is as rock steady as they come, you’re right.

Omega doesn’t charge any more to service the Reduced than they do any of their other chronographs even though it’s two separate movements in the Reduced. In the US they charge $900 to service any chronograph that doesn’t have a crown made of precious metal. Lastly, if a 3rd party offers to service a Reduced, be sure to ask them what they are doing to the chronograph module. Lots of the negative feedback about the Reduced comes from watchmakers servicing the main movement and not the chronograph module. Even if you don’t ever use the chronograph function, the module still needs serviced just like the main movement does. The running seconds hand runs through the chrono module so if they aren’t going to service the chrono module don’t use them. Go to someone who can service both movements. Both movements are essential in that watch.

Not my oldest Omega, but it is my oldest Speedmaster. Consistent with its' age, this is 39 mm.

I believe this is from the late 80's, early 90's. I'm just happy with its' condition.

I have the same Speedmaster on a bracelet.

I don't think I want a replacement Speedmaster. Not really a chronograph person so even the Moonwatch doesn't hold any real magic for me. If I'm gifted it, I'll accept it of course. But I won't go out of my way to get it.

The dimensions on the 1998 automatic date are great for my small wrist. I love it.

Same watch but different variant as I’m rocking the 3210.50 #omega with a brown leather strap
