2023 SOTC
Anyone who saw my last (and until now, only) post will know that I only started collecting watches this year. But I think that over the past few months I’ve managed to put together a fairly decent collection. You’ll notice that every watch here is Japanese. I don’t intend to keep it that way. I just wanted to start out with more affordable options. Didn’t want to dive into the deep end too fast!
My eyes are definitely locked on a Tudor Black Bay 58 for 2024… but I get ahead of myself. What I really need in my collection is a nice beater field watch. I work at a hiking and cycling tour guide company, so I would like something I could wear out in the field that I wouldn’t mind getting a little dirty. Any suggestions? I saw a Timex Expedition North earlier today on Amazon and thought that might do the trick…

I was also considering the Citizen 830 Mechanical, but thought it was a bit too loud for my taste. Still, another really cool Series 8 model. 👍

I had to swap the bracelets on both. The bracelet on the gmt.. I thought made the watch look chunkier (I have smaller wrists), so I put it on a blue/grey sailcloth strap. The sand dial one, came on a Milanese bracelet, which didn’t seem to match the style very well. So I put that on an army green strap.

A Timex Expedition sounds like an excellent choice for what you mentioned. I bet you’d get a ton of mileage out of an always-running, ready-to-go quartz. I’m personally more partial to the “traditional” Expedition models, but go for whatever one you like, you’re definitely looking in the right place.
