What GMT watches can you suggest (under $3,000)?

I’d prefer more sport style with in-house movement.

The in house for GMT is going to be tough. Here are some to consider:

  • Used Tudor BB GMT can be had anround $3k

  • Plenty of used Grand Seikos, largely 9F movements

  • Used Omega Seamaster GMTs

  • Seiko makes all the GMTs you can want in most of their lineup.

  • Yema has a couple.

Otherwise, if you are open to non-in-house, there are a ton, including the amazing Monta Skyquest, which would be my choice for an automatic under $3k.

Thank you for your expert advice! Really appreciate it!

I am going to take a look at the Monta Skyquest, cause I haven’t known this brand before

100% Longines Hydroconquest GMT or the Spirit Zulu Time 39mm. I would recommend trying both on to compare sizes. I was a little weiry of how big the Hydroconquest measures but after trying it on I had to buy it. It wears surprisingly well and the bracelet sold me. The Zulu time is very very nice but I wanted a dive style GMT over a pilots but either way you can’t go wrong.

Great pick and under the $3k, but uses an ETA vs. in house. I would also pick it over many of the available in house at the price.

I will definitely try these watches, actually, I came across them during my search.

All that’s left to do is try it on)

I find it difficult to find a truly in-house anything under $3k. Technically speaking the Longines are in-house because they’re owned by swatch🤷🏼‍♂️

For purchasing, I’d recommend reaching out to Exquisite Timepieces in Naples, FL. They’re super easy to work with and are able to offer a discount unlike places like Mayors or Reeds.

That is fair, one could say in group, I suppose. There really is not a lot under that price, without going used. I think going something with an ETA or a used GS are the best options. The Longines is a good one. In addition, these would be my two:

This may be a dumb question, but what's so special about an in-house movement? Doesn't that just make the movement and its parts proprietary to the extent that your trusted local watch repair shop can't service them properly?

I’ve tried to like Grand Seiko but they’re bracelets are absolute crap… I haven’t tried Monta but on paper they’re definitely worth it over the GS. Also, the Formex GMT is super nice. A little on the larger size but if your wrist can handle it, it’s definitely worth it.

Thanks!

The 9F is a legendary caliber, it almost killed all Swiss watches’ brands.

However, at this moment I’d prefer a mechanic watch, will try a Monta watch

That’s just my preference for my collection. I’m trying to collect watches with in house movements.

Of course, Sellita is a good movement

·

Raymond Weil Freelancer GMT Worldtimer.

A fantastic watch, I’ve had no issues with the RW movement, it comes with a blacked out pvd case or a fully steel case with a blue dial and a more standard inner rotating bezel if the bronze case doesn’t appeal.

I love my Monta Skyquest. Very constable, accurate, beautiful, and great customer service if you like the looks and style of Monta, you won't disappointed.

Comfortable

I would a thousand percent get the Longines Zulu Time in 39mm. There isn’t even a close second competition at that price range I would strongly consider it would just be a unanimous choice for the Longines all day every time.

·

Delma Santiago GMT Meridian- doesn’t fit the in house request but value and finishing is really great on this piece

Aside for Longines, Monta is the best answer IMO for the price point, the Skyquest or Atlas.

·

If you want all in-house, Citizen has a new mechanical GMT movement being used by smaller and micro-brands, but they also have a few new GMTs of their own now on the market.

·

I would go with the Citizen Series 8. You can pick those up on the secondary market for around $1k+ US.

·

Longines would certainly be my first choice with these criteria, but at a lower cost and different look, I love the Mido Ocean Star Decomp Worldtimer - also a (flyer) GMT, decent 80 hour power reserve from the "in-group" movement.

If you are looking at in house movement new then it's pretty much seiko or citizen. You won't find many in house movements for 3k even for a basic 3 hand time only.

·

Longines V.H.P. GMT

·

Used BB GMT

Longines Zulu time

·

Longines for sure. If you can get Tudor GMT or neo vintage Omega Seamaster/arrow hand Speedmaster for that money even better

·

Look at the Traska Summiteer. Less than $1,000 for a traveler GMT
