Datejust wait times?

I had no intentions on posting, but after reading a couple of threads thought it may be worth the ask: does anyone know the approximate time to "get the call" for a Datejust?  I put my name down for a black dial Datejust 36, fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet.  My AD said the DJs wait is not the same as the SS sports models (subs, GMT IIs, Daytonas). Even went as far as saying that the flow could open up soon and possibly even order the watch from Rolex in the next month with production time being unknown. I don't know if that's just puffery or not, but I was somewhat indifferent about the whole thing and the salesman seemed like a straight shooter. Any one here have any insight he or she might share? "Your guess is as good as mine" is the expected response and would be fair enough.

I waited 8 months for my Datejust 41. Picked it up last year.

Thanks for the insight.

Thank you, I appreciate the response. I think the version I want is an allocated model too, so I suppose "order" may not have been the best choice of words. I didn't put any money down either. I imagine the 41 is the more desirable  size. I guess time will tell.

My wife and I walked into an AD and before anyone even said Hi the sales person said “we have nothin in stock and we are not taking any orders”. The body language said “who are you? why are you here? please leave”. I told her ma’am this is the worst customer service I have ever experienced from any “luxury “ brand. Honestly the worst ever. My wife wanted to order a datejust, she is in real estate and wanted brand recognition.

Rolex has become a joke.

They know they have the "fans" by the cajones and are playing it as much as they can.

That's unfortunate. I have had a good experience with my AD so far. My salesperson even remembered my name when I called back 2 weeks later and let him know I am wavering on the dial color (blue or black). He gave me his cell phone number and told me to text him so he remembered to update my request for either.  As watch geeks, I suppose we have to battle those who are buying the brand, but after being in the hobby for a few years my attitude towards Rolex has really changed for the better.  I would try a different AD. Most of us on here have more than one watch from more than one brand, so their loss of your future business.

I get it. Presently, the hype is real, but calling a 100+ year old high quality watch maker a joke is a reach. I wasn't a huge fan myself but it's because it was hard for me to justify such an expensive watch when there are so many quality options for less money. My Tudor, however, is an impressive piece. You can't walk into a Porsche dealership and buy a GT3 without waiting awhile, but Porsche is no joke. Neither is Rolex, in my opinion.

I hear stories of Rolex becoming a lot of things to a lot of people.

  • joke of customer service
  • disappointment/frustration of waitlist shenanigans
  • elitist/hype/flex piece standard
  • Veblen good or investment to the flipper
  • grail/trophy marking an accomplishment

I can at least understand where all are coming from even if I don't personally feel the same. To each their own. Most of all I just wish the watch industry conversation was dominated by something else.

Wish you luck getting your DJ.

I think my brother waited about half a year for a DJ41, makes me think that DJs are truly about waiting for that particular combination to be produced by Rolex.

Yes, I believe that is a realistic time frame. Thank you for the input.

I am on the list for a sports watch and got a call to see if I wanted a DateJust, as one had come in. I declined.

However one of the reasons I did, is there are just so many combinations, if I did want one, I would want the exact design I want. I would feel too much like I am buying onto the hype if I just got whatever happened to come through the door.

·

Yep, same here, but 36 with a black dial. I would take a blue too, which I really dig but I already have 2 other blue dial watches.  Jubilee and fluted bezel are required for me.

...and I completely agree, the build spec is everything for a DJ.

I spoke to sales people in 2 different ADs this weekend and neither are accepting any more orders on any model including DJs. Either Rolex has directed them to stop or their lists simply became too deep to be meaningful anymore. Even if more inventory starts to flow to the ADs this year, many of them are going to the people on those lists before the cutoff.

I think the days of walking into a Rolex AD and buying your first Rolex may be gone which is truly sad. That’s an experience more people should get to enjoy instead of only being limited to “repeat” customers and/or flippers.

Here is what we could expect from a luxury brand.  Walk into a boutique, they treat you well you feel happy to give them your hard earned money, let you try on the product and build a relationship with you, take your order and deliver the product as quickly as possible. The whole experience with luxury brand is about pampering your customer, and for the customer to feel like they are valued by the brand. Rolex otoh created scarcity during to lock downs and covid etc and demand went up, they really treat their customers like poop. Rolex makes more than a million watches a year! I am probably in the .009% of people who don't like  the looks of a Rolex.. and share the view that "Rolex has indeed become a joke". A tool watch that has become a "luxury" brand.. that has no attributes what so ever of being a "luxury" brand.

·

Same. I always get treated professionally and with respect.

·

I wonder how long is the wait time for a Tiffany blue DJ41? Will I get it before it is discontinued?

·

wow i didnt know datejust has a waiting list too, back in 2017 or 2018 my dad bought a 36 black dial datejust with flute bezel and jubilee bracelet directly from the ad. if i remember correctly back then there are many datejust and op unit at the local id, however there arent any other model.

Larger size OPs have become unobtainium too.  I want the date and the dressier look of the DJ 36. Nice watch.

I walked in to an AD last week, and enquired about a DJ 41 everose, fluted and oyster bracelet. He said there would be a wait but nothing like what you would have on  Sub/GMT etc
Let's see... I am estimating 6-12months
